In this summer camp, learners with little to no prior exposure to French will learn about basic sentence structure: articles (both definite and indefinite), nouns, descriptive adjectives, possessive adjectives, subject pronouns, prepositions, verbs in the present tense, and some common expressions using the verbs they're studying. Vocabulary will be grown through repeated use of words when forming sentences together as a class. Note: This is the same curriculum that I teach in my 6-week Intro to French: Part A class. There is plenty of built-in review of grammar concepts and vocabulary, but the class does progress at an accelerated pace. Students should be prepared to complete their short homework assignments and study the vocabulary and grammar between classes so that they will be able to keep up with the class. Class 1: Introduction to French pronunciation Introduction to the concept of gender and "agreement" (in which articles and adjectives must agree in both gender and number with the nouns or pronouns that they're modifying) Common nouns Definite articles Indefinite articles Placement (after the noun) and agreement of most adjectives Class 2: Placement (before the noun) and agreement of common adjectives Subject pronouns Conjugation of the verb "être" (to be) with practice using it in sentences Common expressions using "être" Vocabulary building Class 3: Conjugation of the verb "avoir" (to have) and using it in sentences Common expressions using "avoir" Number 1-20 Vocabulary building Class 4: Possessive adjectives Conjugation of the verb "faire" (to do; to make) Some expressions using "faire" (including the weather) Conjugation of the verb "aimer" (to like; to love) Expressing sentences/verbs in the negative (negation) Continued vocabulary building and review Class 5: Conjugation of the verb "aller" (to go) The preposition "à" with places "Aller" used to indicate near future action Continued vocabulary building and review Students will be asked to write paragraphs for homework this week. Class 6: Learners will each read their original paragraphs aloud to the class Conjugation of the verb "pouvoir" (to be able to) Conjugation of the verb "vouloir" (to want) Continued vocabulary building and review After each class, students will be provided with a document (via the Outschool classroom) containing a list of vocabulary, verb conjugations, and grammar rules, as well as homework containing translation exercises. These documents may be printed for easy access and reference during and between classes. During class, I'll be using a combination of white board writing and screen sharing. Students will be asked to actively participate in creating sentences, which may be shared in the Zoom chat.
Metas de aprendizaje
By the end of the two weeks, students will be able to confidently construct sentences using basic vocabulary, including subjects (nouns and pronouns), verbs in the present tense, definite and indefinite articles, and descriptive and possessive adjectives. They'll be able to write paragraphs about their families, pets, interests, etc..

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I was educated bilingually in Canada all the way through university, where I graduated with an Honours double major degree in psychology and French studies from a bilingual university in Toronto (Université York). Because most of my teachers and professors were from France, my accent is more French (European) than French Canadian. I've been teaching beginner French classes at the middle school and high school levels here on Outschool for the last two years. Before that, I taught the language at a large home school co-op and also to my own four children as I home educated them for eight years.
