US Grade 6 - 7
Intermediate Level
Cover second semester 6th-grade math content in this high involvement and discussion based course. In order to facilitate discussion students need to come to class with cameras and microphones on and have class in a quiet location. All class content is aligned with U.S. national standards. Each class will follow the following format: Warm Up, Exploration/Discussion of the topic, collaborative practice, and evaluation. Students will receive notes and homework after each class. The notes will be completed for them so that they can focus on actively participating in class. It is highly recommended students complete the homework. The class will cover the following units (listed below are sample topics): Unit 1: Equations and Expressions -Write and solve equations involving variables -Understand number properties and apply them to variables -Use formulas to solve problems -Apply rules of equivalency to distribute and factor an expression Unit 2: Negative Numbers and the Coordinate Plane -Work with all rational integers on the coordinate plane -Applying Formulas for Area and Perimeter using coordinate points -Understand absolute value and additive inverse and number properties as they relate to positive and negative integers -add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers Unit 3: Geometry -Area of triangles and other irregular and regular polygons -surface area and it's relationship to the area of a 2 diminstional shape Unit 4: Data and Statistical Probability -Dot Plots and Histograms -Measures of Center and Variability
Learning Goals
Students will work with positive and negative numbers in equations and on the coordinate plane.
Students will simplify, expand, and distribute expressions and equations.
