Writing is both an expression of creativity, and a skill to be developed.

A successful writer requires mastery in over a range of interrelated competencies, including sentence construction, paragraph development, essay structuring, editing and refinement, as well as the creation of tone and mood, semantic resonances, historical allusions, utilizing literary forms and tropes, and more.

Hardly any of this is ever taught in schools. It is something that requires mentoring.

This is what this class seeks to provide for your young learner.

Whether they are only just exploring creative writing for the first time, or already have pieces of prose or poetry requiring a discerning eye to guide them to further improvement, I will look to provide exactly what your learner needs.

The Structure

This will be based on student needs.

1) If the student has existing written works, they will be encouraged to send to me a text file (Word or PDF) that I will review with line-by-line commentary that we will then go over in depth during the online class.

or

2) If the student wishes to explore the creative process, they will be given creative exercises to inspire their own writing. This will include in-class analysis of existing works to learn what the authors were doing, how they did it, and their aims, followed by homework of creating their own short story, essay, abstract, poem, or something else specific to student interests.

Topics

These include grammar, sentence structure, paragraph development, paper organization, editing, citation (if applicable), and the creative process itself. Also included will be discussion of literary genre, great works and authors in those genres, and what its noteworthy about each

Class Format

Interaction between me and the student on their works, with line by line guidance where needed. The aim is not just tutor, but mentor their own creative development
Metas de aprendizaje
