This studio-style course will teach students how to find inspiration for abstract works of art, how to translate that into paint, and choices of process order. We will meet for three weeks for 60 minutes each. This will leave students to work on their paintings 1-2 hours per week before coming to the next class. We will have in-class work time as well! This is a great course for students interested in art with various skill levels. Students should complete their painting over the three weeks and have a cohesive, interesting abstract painting in their portfolio! ---------------------- Materials Needed: 18x24 or larger stretched artist canvas (art supply store - wide range of prices) Acrylic Paints - a set or a collection of colors is best. Students will DEFINITELY need Titanium White and at least 4-6 colors. (wide range, but can find a small set for $10-20) - There are very affordable sets available at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and AC Moore. My favorite student brands are: Artist Loft (Michaels), Master's Touch (Hobby Lobby), Liquitex Basics (most stores carry this brand), and Premieré (AC Moore). These are all very versatile, well-priced, and good quality. Various Brushes (wide range) Water Container (recycled) Paper Plate or Palette - I use a paper palette pad Apron or Smock Water Bottle With Spray Top (recycled works - I use an old hair treatment bottle) Paper Towels For planning purposes: paper/sketchbook, pencil, colored pencils Tracing Paper *Some Visual Inspiration - could be artwork or not - some things that they find interesting to look at. On a phone iPad is fine; printed also works! *Magazines - a few (recycled) -------------------------- Class Schedule: Class 1: Finding Inspiration & Color Scheme Class 2: Laying Out Composition, Blocking in Areas, Creating Unity & Movement Class 3: Class Mid-Project Critique & Suggestions, Work Time, Final Thoughts

I am a practicing fine artist and art teacher, certified for grades K-12. My media of choice is acrylic paint and I prefer to work on large, abstract paintings. I love to teach students how and where to look for inspiration for their work and how to execute those plans on canvas.
