Experiencia de clase

This 'Alphabet Bingo' class, is a great way for students to have some A B C fun, reviewing their letter sounds, and practicing social and communication skills throughout the game.

At the start of this class we will review the letters of the alphabet, looking at the letters and images on the bingo boards. We will also highlight letters that are important and significant to us, such as the first letter of our name, family member or favorite animals.

We will then explore the individual bingo boards that will be sent to the students in advance of the class. Each student should come to class with a printed bingo card and counters (or similar items - such as buttons / coins / paste bows), to cover the letters on their boards as they are called out. The rules of bingo will be explained and I will model how students should listen carefully, identify the letter and picture name, and then check their boards.

Throughout the lesson my focus will be to review the letters with students, and also to support students as they use their important social and communication skills throughout the game. Students will be encouraged and supported as they participate in class. If you feel that your child may be shy or anxious about participating in class please feel free to contact me in advance and let me know.

While no prior experience is needed, students would benefit from knowing their letters. If you are unsure if your student would be able to independently play this bingo game, you are encouraged to reach out to me and inquire about class suitability.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will practice and review the letters of the alphabet throughout the bingo game. Bingo is a game that is great for fostering social skills and communication skills. During the game students use their social skills as they interact and cooperate with their classmates. They also have experience of being a good sport throughout the game. Communication is also a key skill used when playing a bingo game. Students use verbal and listening skills to listen carefully for the letters, identify the letter sounds and recognize that letter on their bingo board.

Throughout the lesson my focus will be to review the letters with students, and also to support students as they use those important social and communication skills throughout the game.

Hello! My name is Roisin. Welcome to my classroom!

I have a both a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Education. For more than 20 years I have been a teacher and an educator. I have been a classroom teacher, a curriculum designer, a teacher trainer and an online English teacher. I have experience teaching students from PreSchool through to 9th grade, both in a regular classroom and also in a virtual classroom. For me as an educator, it has been rewarding at every level to nurture and foster early skills and equip young learners with the tools they need to inquire and question about the world around them. I love to see how these skills grow and develop, and support learners as they progress throughout the grades.

I believe that children learn when they are actively engaged in their learning, sharing their ideas and collaborating with their peers. Learning is inspired by lessons that are meaningful and relevant to students. The lessons spark their interest, nurture and develop an understanding of a 'big idea' and build essential skills. And of course fun and enjoyment in the classroom are essential ingredients too. When students are happy and engaged, those meaningful conversations and interactions happen naturally in the classroom.

Over the past few years I have learned to surf (badly). I am by no means a good surfer (in fact I'm pretty poor), but there is nothing more rewarding than finally standing upright on that board! Its good to feel the challenge of slowly mastering the various steps, before finally mastering the 'pop-up'. And nothing more humbling than seeing the little kids whizz past you as you struggle to master those skills during the process!
