This course will help learners understand basic genetics, or how their bodies store information and use that information to make unique physical features. It will cover the difference between genes, DNA, and chromosomes. We will also learn about heredity and the basic building blocks of genetics (also known as the Central Dogma of Biology). Understanding these steps will help learners visualize the path the body uses from information storage to physical characteristics. This course will be taught in a lecture/discussion style, with plenty of interaction between the learners and instructor (questions are always encouraged!) Engaging and relevant visuals in a PowerPoint style will also be utilized. Learners are not required to have any previous knowledge of genetics, just an interest in learning about a new, revolutionary field of science!

Hello! My name is Mrs. Atkinson and I'm excited to share my passions of science and Japanese with young learners! I recently graduated with a Bachelor's in Biomedical Science and come fresh out of courses such as Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Advanced Anatomy & Physiology. I enjoy breaking things down to the basics to help ignite a passion for science in our youth.
In addition, I have studied the Japanese language independently for 8 years and lived in Japan for about 2 years. I have put together a variety of Japanese courses to allow students to experience this beautiful language and culture.
Please let me know if you have any questions as you explore the variety of classes I have to offer! I offer One Time, Multi-Day, Self-Paced (Flexible Schedule), and Semester classes.
