In This Fun Online Novel Study Group, students will explore exciting and engaging novels in a supportive, social setting. We’ll dive deep into storytelling, character development, and themes, while also discussing the broader connections between literature and real life. Each week, students will read assigned chapters and come together for lively discussions, creative projects, and activities that bring the stories to life. This ongoing class offers a fun, collaborative experience for avid readers or students looking to discover new books!

Class Experience:
In this class, students will read and explore novels from various genres—fantasy, mystery, historical fiction, and more. Each week, we will cover specific chapters or sections of the chosen book, with time set aside for group discussions, comprehension activities, and hands-on projects.

What will be taught?
	•	Understanding literary elements (plot, character, setting, theme, etc.)
	•	Analyzing deeper meanings and themes within the novels
	•	Critical thinking and making connections to real-world events or personal experiences
	•	Building vocabulary and comprehension skills

Topics covered:
Each novel will be carefully selected to cover a wide range of topics, such as:
	•	Adventure and discovery
	•	Moral dilemmas and character growth
	•	Different cultures and time periods
	•	Problem-solving and teamwork in fictional contexts

Class Structure:
The class will meet three times a week with no set end date, providing an ongoing space for students to engage with literature. Every week will follow this general structure:
	1.	Discussion Session: Focus on the previous week’s reading. We’ll discuss key events, characters, and themes, encouraging students to share their thoughts and ideas.
	2.	Activity Session: Fun reading activities such as quizzes, drawing scenes, creating character maps, or re-imagining parts of the story.
	3.	Project/Creative Session: Students will work on small group projects related to the book. This could be creating an alternate ending, designing a new book cover, or presenting a character analysis.

Teaching Style:
My teaching style is interactive, student-centered, and discussion-based. I encourage students to express their ideas and opinions while guiding them with thought-provoking questions and activities. Each class will be structured to provide a balance of reading comprehension, creativity, and critical thinking.

Interaction with Learners:
Students will interact with me and their peers throughout the class. The lessons will incorporate:
	•	Discussions: Learners will participate in group discussions where they can ask questions, share insights, and respond to each other’s ideas.
	•	Games: Fun and interactive games like character bingo, trivia, and comprehension challenges to reinforce learning.
	•	Slides & Videos: Short slides and video clips will be used to illustrate key points or enhance understanding of complex topics.
	•	Creative Assignments: Students will have opportunities to work on creative projects individually or in small groups, fostering collaboration and engagement.

This class is perfect for students who enjoy reading, discussing, and expressing themselves creatively. It’s an ongoing experience where they can continue reading new novels, so there’s always something fresh and exciting!

Orientación para padres
For this reading club, the books chosen will generally be age-appropriate for students aged 10-14. However, depending on the novel, there may be some content that could be upsetting or scary to some learners. This could include: • Themes of loss, grief, or conflict: Certain books may touch on these themes in a way that is sensitive but might still evoke strong emotions in some students. • Mild Violence or Threatening Situations: Some adventure or fantasy books might contain scenes of mild violence or danger, though nothing graphic or inappropriate for this age group. Parents will be informed of the selected novels in advance, and any content warnings specific to the chosen book will be shared with families. Additionally: • No third-party tools requiring student accounts will be used. All reading and discussions will take place within the platform’s online classroom environment. • If a particular book has an official rating or content advisory, that will be communicated to parents ahead of time. Parents are encouraged to review the book list and discuss any concerns with the instructor before the club begins.

All of our teachers have extensive experience working with middle school-aged students in both in-person and virtual learning environments. Over the past several years, we have taught a variety of subjects, including literature and reading comprehension, both through formal classroom settings and extracurricular reading groups. We have also facilitated online learning in creative, interactive formats, helping students stay engaged with the material while enhancing their critical thinking and reading skills.

Our teachers experience also includes working with diverse learning styles and helping students connect literature to their personal experiences, making reading fun and relevant. We have successfully led book clubs and reading programs with children in this age group, fostering a love for reading in a supportive and collaborative environment.
