It all began with a birthday present Omri didn't want. It would become Omri's secret: precious, dangerous, wonderful-even MAGICAL.

This WILDLY popular novel has won many children's awards in the 1980's and is revered as a CLASSIC children's book to be read by all!

Your kids are sure to love Omri and his new magical friend Little Bear!

**BEFORE FIRST CLASS**
Read teacher created handouts(background knowledge and vocabulary)
Read Chapters 1-4(pg. 1-42)

Learners will need to be able to read 6-7 pgs. a day/40-45 pgs. a week, to keep up with the reading and class discussion.

Class will be structured with engaging discussions, and activities, students will analyze background information, vocabulary, characters, explore settings, plot and themes, symbolism and figurative language, and conflict and resolutions.

Learners will be assigned weekly reading to be completed before each class. I will also be sending engaging novel study assignments. This is a great way for students to dig deep into their reading while also engaging in cross curricular activities. This will be open and go and can be done on their own. These are OPTIONAL, but students will really enjoy them and learn ALOT!

This is NOT a, read a book and talk about it, class. This is a LEARNING class! We want to learn everything about Omri & Little Bear, which includes, Native Americans, empathy, stereotypes, friendship, imagination, and so much more! When we read, we learn!

We also want to understand the story. So learning about literary elements is KEY to really comprehending Omri & Little Bear's story and why things happen. Many times a little ones read, they miss many details because they focus on certain parts or don't know certain literary aspects to dig deep and understand. These literary elements will help them read more closely and comprehend any text going forward!

Are you ready to learn about Omri's adventure when he meets The Indian in the Cupboard? Me too!

Let's go on an adventure and LEARN!

**LAST CLASS**
To participate in the last class, each learner will need to see the movie, which is streaming for free on Youtube, prior to the last class. Please preview the movie. If you prefer your child not to watch the movie, they will still be able to participate in the last class celebration!
