Orientación para padres
During this book club, we will have two tea parties. Your student may want to bake treats for these tea parties, so please be available to help with sharp knives and a hot stove or oven that may be needed during the baking process. These will not be done during the club, but before the scheduled time of the tea parties. Also be aware that some baking projects may include possible allergens such as nuts, wheat, dairy, eggs, or soy. These are not required activities for the club, but you can decide if you want your child to participate in the baking projects or just buy something from the store. Or you can join the tea party with us with no treats.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Licenciatura en Educación desde Miami University
I graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a B.S. in Ed. I taught first grade at Valley View school district. Then I continued my education and renewed my teaching certificate through distance learning for many years. I have independently studied teaching techniques for reading and obtained lots of experience through tutoring and teaching my own children to read.

I am a former first grade teacher who came home to raise my children and ended up educating them all - all 10 of them! - at home. I love it! I still homeschool my youngest 4.

I love children! And I love teaching them. Especially teaching them to read.

I love reading aloud and helping children learn to break the code of letters and letter sounds so that they can understand how to blend them together and enter the wonderful world of reading and learning all that they want to know.

I use a variety of methods to teach reading. I have taught many children to read, so I understand that no two children learn in the same way. I am a big believer in readiness. I adjust my expectations and methods to the readiness of each child. I individualize instruction, because I do not want any child to feel inferior or pressured to do something they are not developmentally ready for. I use music and videos, phonics, early readers, reading aloud, hands-on projects, cut and paste, rhyming words, poetry, and whatever else I think of that may work to reach a child in their learning style and strength.

I try very hard to make learning fun and to make children feel successful and smart!
