In this 4-week, twice a week class, students will learn and practice Explanatory Writing: Problem & Solution through lecture, guided discussion, and group and individual practice. This class will provide direct writing instruction in Problem & Solution Explanatory Writing. As a class, students will work through the process of brainstorming, organizing, writing, and editing a problem & solution explanatory essay. As part of this process, students will submit a piece of writing using problem & solution explanatory writing on topic of their choice that serves a specific purpose and addresses a particular audience. Week 1 - Lesson 1 - Discovering the Elements of a Multi-Paragraph Problem & Solution Essay - pt 1 Week 1 - Lesson 2 - Discovering the Elements of a Multi-Paragraph Problem & Solution Essay - pt 2 Week 2 - Lesson 1 - Writing a Problem & Solution Class Essay - pt. 1 Week 2 - Lesson 2 - Writing a Problem & Solution Class Essay - pt. 2 Week 3 - Lesson 1 - Writing a Problem & Solution Essay with Peers - pt. 1 Week 3 - Lesson 2 - Writing a Problem & Solution Essay with Peers - pt. 2 Week 4 - Lesson 1 - Writing a Problem & Solution Essay Independently - pt. 1 Week 4 - Lesson 2 - Writing a Problem & Solution Essay Independently - pt. 2 The Final Individual Writing will be a final homework assignment due via "Conversation" and will be scored within 48 hours using the scoring Rubric and feedback.

Students will understand the process for writing a multi-paragraph problem & solution explanatory essay and will write one independently at the end of class for a writing score and feedback.
