Grado de EE. UU. 8
This 8th Grade Literature Course focuses on Science Fiction and Fantasy Classics. The goal is to finish a book every 2-3 weeks. The catch up mechanism will be to drop an author's second book if we fall behind this pacing - for example, we would drop one of Jules Verne's (or H.G. Wells) if necessary. The Time Machine by H.G. Wells Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain Dracula by Bram Stoker Frankenstein by Mary Shelley The Once and Future King by T.H. White The Strange Case of Dr. Jeckyll and Mr Hyde and Other Tales of Terror by Robert Louis Stevenson The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells Many of these books go into great detail using the science of their day to bridge the fantastical. We will examine the underlying scientific theory and see if these books still qualify as literary classics.

Students can either purchase the digital or print editions of these books from Amazon.com (I get books for all of my courses there) or borrow books from the library. Students will know at least a week in advance what the next book will be. The Gutenberg Project (https://www.gutenberg.org/) is an additional resource. It has over 54,000 free public domain ebooks.
