Week 1Lesson 1Introduction to Japanese LanguageLearners will identify and name the official three writing systems in Japanese. Learners will read hiragana with the aid of hiragana chart from the class. Learners will use classroom expressions in Japanese with sensei when he/she is ready for the next material after the first lesson. Learners will recite, write, and identify the A-line and Ka-line hiragana.Week 2Lesson 2Different SoundsLearners will recite, write, and identify the Sa and Ta-line hiragana. Learners will identify and recognize special symbols for hiragana to alter the original pronunciations.Week 3Lesson 3Continue on Different Sounds, and GreetingsLearners will recite, write, and identify the Na-line hiragana. Learners will identify and recognize special symbols for hiragana to alter the original pronunciations. Learners will use appropriate greetings with one another for the different time of the day.Week 4Lesson 4PreferenceLearners will recite, write, and identify the Ha and Ma-line hiragana. Learners will identity the adjectives for expressing one's preference. Learners will ask questions on one's preference. Learners will respond to questions on one's preference.Week 5Lesson 5Grade Levels and School SystemLearners will recite, write, and identify the Ya-line hiragana. Learners will compare and contrast the difference in school system in Japan and the U.S. Learners will ask and respond to questions on one's grade level. Learners will use the appropriate classification of grade level in Japan to tell his/her grade level. Learners will develop a short self-introduction including his/her grade level.Week 6Lesson 6Languages and NationalitiesLearners will recite, write, and identify the Ra line hiragana. Learners will compare and contrast the difference the pronunciation of country names written in katakana with English. Learners will ask and respond to questions on one's nationality. Learners will develop a short self-introduction including his/her nationality and the language(s) spoken.Week 7Lesson 7NumbersLearners recite, write, and identify the Wa line hiragana. Learners are introduced to the numbers up to 20. Classroom activities for learners to ask and respond on one's age.Week 8Lesson 8The Self-Introduction Presentation and Class Wrap-Up Review GamesIf all of the previous lessons didn't take long, we will have students present their self-introduction presentation, answer any questions students may have on the materials learned so far. If not, we will be completing the lesson on numbers.

Many years of freelance tutoring experience for Japanese and Mandarin have helped me teaching all levels of Japanese including Pre-AP and AP classes at my former employment at a public high school.

Please note that the game portion of the class requires the student to click on a link from Gimkit which I will provide in the class for the students to participate. It is an approved third party learning tool. Quizlet is a website that allows for students and educators to make and use digital flashcards. I offer students to study vocabulary outside of class by accessing Quizlet cards that I have created specific to my classes. Students will need to provide their username on Quizlet account to have access to all of my flashcards.
