This full-year 6th grade curriculum is based on the Common Core Standards and encompasses English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. The course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills. Learners are welcome to join the class at any time. Although some class content will build from the previous week, it will not prevent the new learner from understanding the concept we are covering during the current week. For example, some weeks, learners may choose to continue a writing piece they started in a previous class, or we may continue reading a book we started in a class prior. In both these circumstances, new learners will be given all the information they need to be successful in class. I believe in meeting learners at their current academic level and providing an encouraging learning environment to facilitate meaningful learning. Learners should come to class with paper and pencil or whiteboard. I encourage discussions and lots of interaction but also understand some learners prefer to refrain from participating and enjoy listening to class discussions. Each subject taught (reading, writing, math, science and social studies) will include a mini-lesson, group practice, and independent practice. Homework will be given based on what is covered during the week. The mini-lesson will include the new teaching point, which the teacher will demonstrate using interactive slides. Math instruction will consist of a worksheet provided by the teacher each week. Reading topics will include identifying key ideas and details, analyzing craft and structure, comprehension and discussion. All lessons will be taught through reading a book together and to self. Learners will need to have a copy of the book used during class. The teacher will provide the book needed at least 2 weeks ahead of time. ⭐⭐⭐I cannot share class recordings as per agreements with publishers, who have granted permission to use specific materials under the condition that videos are not posted. Your understanding and cooperation in respecting these agreements are greatly appreciated. Additionally, please note that refunds will not be issued for missed classes. Thank you for your understanding and commitment to our shared learning experience. ⭐⭐⭐ Week 1: Sept. 2 Reading: Book Study Writing: Narrative Math: Ratios and Proportions Science: Earth and Space Science Social Studies: Civics & Government Week 2: Sept. 8 Reading: Book Study Writing: Narrative Math: Understanding Unit Rates Science:Earth and Space Science Social Studies: Civics & Government Week 3: Sept. 15th Reading: Book Study Writing: Narrative Math: Percents and Their Applications Science: Earth and Space Science Social Studies: Civics & Government Week 4: Sept. 22nd Reading: Book Study Writing: Narrative Math:The Number System and Operations with Integers Science: Earth and Space Science Social Studies: Civics & Government Week 5: Sept. 29th Reading: Book Study Writing: Editing Process and Shared Writing Math: Understanding Fractions and Operations Science: Earth and Space Science Social Studies: Civics & Government Week 6: Oct. 6th Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write Math: Decimal Operations Science:Earth and Space Science Social Studies: Personal Finance and Economics Week 7: Oct. 13th Reading: Book Study Writing: Share Writing Math: Factors and Multiples Science: Life Science Social Studies: Personal Finance and Economics Week 8: Oct. 20th Reading: Book Study Writing: Understanding Argumentative Writing Math: Prime Factorization Science: Life Science Social Studies: Personal Finance and Economics Week 9: Oct. 27th Reading: Book Study Writing: Argumentative Essay Math: Expressions and Equations Science: Life Science Social Studies: Personal Finance and Economics Week 10: Nov. 3rd Reading: Book Study Writing: Argumentative Essay Math: Solving One-Step Equations Science: Life Science Social Studies: Personal Finance and Economics Week 11: Nov 10th Reading: Book Study Writing: Argumentative Essay Math: Understanding Inequalities Science: Life Science Social Studies: Personal Finance and Economics Week 12: Nov 17th Reading: Book Study Writing: Shared Writing Day Math: Coordinate Plane and Graphing Science: Life Science Social Studies: Personal Finance and Economics Week 13: Nov 24th Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write Math: Area and Perimeter of Polygons Science: Life Science Social Studies: Geography Week 14: Dec. 1st Reading: Book Study Writing: Free Write Math: Volume and Surface Area Science: Physical Science Social Studies: Geography Week 15: Dec. 8th Reading: Book Study Writing: Informative Writing Math: Understanding Statistics Science: Physical Science Social Studies: Geography Week 16: Dec. 15th Reading: Book Study Writing: Informative Writing Math: Mean, Median, Mode, and Range Science: Physical Science Social Studies: Geography Week 17: Jan. 5 Reading: Book Study Writing: Informative Writing Math: Probability Basics Science: Physical Science Social Studies: Geography Week 18: Jan. 12 Reading: Book Study Writing: Informative Writing Math: Data Representation and Interpretation Science: Physical Science Social Studies: Geography Social Studies; Eras in United States History Week 19: Jan. 19 Reading: Book Study Writing: Informative Writing Math: Understanding Patterns and Functions Science: Physical Science Social Studies; Eras in United States History Week 20: Jan. 26 Reading: Book Study Writing: Shared Writing Day!
