Grado de EE. UU. 6
In this semi-introductory course, students will learn a variety of mathematical concepts over the course of 20 sessions. During this time, they will work on the following skills per week (with supplemental practice provided):

Session 1- Ratios (equivalent fractions, learning how to write ratios and solve, and how to find equivalent ratios)
Session 2- Rate (finding the rate and finding ratios on a graph)
Session 3- Unit Rate (finding the value of one unit)
Session 4- Percents conversion (percent to decimal to fraction)
Session 5- Percents (how to find the percent, part, or whole)
Session 6- Rational # (fraction review)
Session 7- Rational # (decimals)
Session 8- Rational # (what are rational numbers, and how to identify on number line- intro to integers and absolute value)
Session 9- Exponents (powers of ten)
Session 10- Exponents (solving for digits other than ten and powers up to 5)
Session 11- Exponents (order of operations)
Session 12- Variables (common terms and how to distribute variables to simplify)
Session 13- Variables (Solving for variables when known and solving when not known)
Session 14- Variables (solving both sides for one variable)
Session 15-Data (mean, median, mode, range)
Session 16-Data (types of data graphs)
Session 17- Geometry (area, perimeter, volume)
Session 18- Geometry (decomposing composite shapes and finding area/volume of 2D shapes)
Session 19- Geometry (identifying 3D shapes and nets)
Session 20- Geometry (surface area and volume of prisms including rectangular and cubes )

At the end of each unit, students will provided access to a virtual quiz through Google Forms for review of concepts as well as a review game from Kahoot to practice prior to the quiz. These quizzes may be used for academic grading purposes or enrichment. In addition, students will receive daily questions in the classroom to practice solving, as well as receive weekly practice to complete independently.

During each class, I will introduce the topic, and provide step by step practice to learn how to solve the problem using standard algorithm (students may use other methods previously learned and will be supported in those, however for the purposes of the class for instruction standard algorithm will be utilized). Several practice problems will be presented, with opportunities to pause the video to permit students a chance to work through and solve as they learn/review the concept of the week.

Students will also have Khan Academy pages made for them (no previous account needed) and have assignments issued to review content learned for each week (this is not required, but is being provided as an additional enrichment).

Private tutoring is also available upon request for additional support in this concept.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn about ratios and how to determine equivalency between ratios using prior knowledge of fractions. Students will then use their ratio knowledge to determine unit rates of two different subjects.

Students will learn about percents and how to convert between decimal, percent, and fractions. Students will then learn how to find a missing percent, part, or whole of a percent word problem.

Students will learn about rational numbers and what they are, how to find rational numbers on a number line, and how to solve integers.

Students will learn about exponents and how to use exponents to multiply powers of ten and numbers 1-9 up to powers of 5, in addition order of operations.

Students will work with variables to learn what the parts of an equation are, how to use the distributive property, and how to solve variables when known and not known.

Students will learn mean, median, mode, and range and use that information for different graphs including box and whisker graphs.

Students will learn in geometry how to find area, perimeter, and volume of 2D shapes, as well as how to find the area of composite shapes. Students will learn what a net is and how to find the area of a net, as well as identify what the shape is . Students will conclude by learning how to find surface area of a rectangular prism.

Please ensure your student practices the skill sets with the supplemental material to ensure students learn the most material. Answer key is provided (not for quizzes however-please contact for that information). Students will be given practice in both a digital form and paper for ease of access for families (Google Docs will be used for families wishing to complete assignments digitally, while PDFs will be provided if printing is preferred). An account is not needed for access. Students will have access to Kahoot for reviewing strategies and extra practice with each unit. An account is not needed for access. Students will also be given access to Khan Academy for additional enrichment. An account is not needed as one will be created for the student to use.
Lista de útiles escolares
Practice sheets will be provided weekly after each session to allow students to practice the skill we reviewed that week. Students will need pencil and paper to work problems out throughout class each session.

Practice will come from a variety of resources including math-aids, commoncoresheets.com, and more as needed to support learners. These are all free resources for families.

I have taught as a 6th grade math teacher for one year, 5th grade math teacher for two years, and served as a private mathematics tutor and home-bound instructor for over 6 years. I have taught elementary math, as well as review classes, unit classes, and private tutored in mathematics on Outschool since January 2019. I have worked with various students from various backgrounds to help them master mathematics for over 10 years as a teacher, meeting the needs of various learning styles and needs. I am very familiar with digital learning and how to work with students online, including interactions and helping students understand material. I also integrate review for students to practice to show me how they are progressing. I stay on after the session ends if students need a bit more review, and offer tutoring to assist.
