I love math and I can’t wait to ignite a love of math for your learner this year! I will begin most classes with a warm up to review previously learned topics! Then we will have a short mini lesson followed by examples. Students will record notes in their math notebook. Students will then complete some problems on their own in their math notebooks! The chat box, discussion, and interactive whiteboard will be utilized for students to share their problem solving strategies with me and the class. I will use visuals and manipulatives to help explain new concepts as needed. Games will be used to engage learners in the material! An optional homework assignment will be posted after each class! Week of 1/6: Dividing fractions with pictures, tape diagrams, and number lines. Week of 1/13: Dividing fractions and mixed numbers with the standard algorithm. Word problems. Week of 1/20: Mixed fraction word problems. Week of 1/27: Multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals by 10, 100, and 1,000. Powers of 10. Week of 2/3: Multiplying and dividing by powers of 10. Week of 2/10: Convert length and weight in the customary system. Real life word problems! A ruler will be very helpful for this week. Week of 2/17: Convert capacity in the customary system. Mixed review of the customary system. Week of 2/24: Convert length within the metric system, real life word problems! Hi!! I’m Mrs. Drye. I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from UNC Chapel Hill and a Masters Degree in Middle Grades Math Education from UNC-Charlotte. I was a NC Teaching Fellow and Teacher of the Year when I taught 6th grade math! As a teacher I focus on building relationships with students so that I can help them to build their math confidence. I focus on differentiating learning for each of my students. I can extend learning for some learners while helping others to review a topic that’s tough for them. I encourage students to share their math thinking and guide them in learning new strategies. I also keep class fun and exciting with games, discussion, and songs! I taught 5th and 6th grade for 8 years before deciding to stay home and homeschool my three girls. My daughters are now 10, 8, and almost 6! I enjoy exploring new places, teaching, and exercising!
