In this summer language enrichment program, your child will have the opportunity to engage, interact and explore a variety of stories, increase their vocabulary development skills, enhance their language skills by having rich discussions about the text, and work on their writing skills. They will also have the opportunity of creating and build (arts and crafts activities) and attend a virtual field trip at the end of the program.  This 5-week summer program will be jammed packed with learning, exploring, and creativity.  Each week is designed to target a different story and skill so that your child will be able to maintain their language and learning skills all while having fun virtually. 
Week 1: 
Day 1- Listening Comprehension & Vocabulary Development:
           Vocabulary Introduction, a brief discussion about things
           we see in the picture, where this story takes place, we will
           learn some fun facts then we will have a Story Read aloud

Day 2- Vocabulary Development/Music and Movement:
           -Review Vocabulary, students will formulate sentences using
           target words with support (visual and/or imitate) and will 
           practice writing sentences.
         - We will do a Taco exercise dance,

Day 3- Story Elements & Wh-questions:
           -Work on retelling the story in 
           sequential order with visual supports 
           by incorporating temporal 
           vocabulary “First”, “Next”, “Then” 
           and “Last”  while incorporating some 
           targeted vocabulary and listing 
          details within their sentences

Day 4-Following Directions and Discussion:
           - Fire Breathing Dragon Activity
           -They will draw their favorite food and share
           -Students will ask each 
           other what their favorite part of the 
           the story was by responding to the question: 
           “What was your favorite part of the story”? 
           Students will use the sentence  starter, “My favorite part of the story 
           was when__________”. There is a Book Review
           graphic organizer where students can also draw 
           and write their responses (optional).

Week 2: 
Day 1- Listening Comprehension & Vocabulary Development:
           Vocabulary Introduction, a brief discussion about things
           we see in the picture, where this story takes place then we will 
           have a Story Read aloud and will listen to a song about the story

Day 2- Vocabulary Development:
           Review Vocabulary, students will 
           formulate sentences using target 
           words with support (visual and/or 
           imitate) 
          - Students will complete "Write 5 Ways to Make Friends" wksht

Day 3- Story Elements & Wh-questions:
           -Work on retelling the story in 
           sequential order with visual supports 
           by incorporating temporal 
           vocabulary “First”, “Next”, “Then” 
           and “Last”  while incorporating some 
           targeted vocabulary and listing 
          details within their sentences
          (Use the sequential templates attached with and without visuals). 

Day 4: Writing Mechanics and Discussion:
            -We will watch a short video clip on What makes a good friend (Youtube 4:10)
          -Students will write 1-5 detailed sentences of a time when they were a good friend.
           -Students will ask each 
           other what their favorite part of the 
           the story was by responding to the question: 
           “What was your favorite part of the story”? 
           Students will use the sentence 
           starter, “My favorite part of the story 
           was when__________”. There is a Book Review
           graphic organizer where students can also draw a
           and write their response (optional).

Week 3:

           -Complete Feelings Activity
           -Begin  Arts and Crafts Activity (Painting)
           -Finish Arts and Crafts Activity
            -Students will ask each 
           other what their favorite part of the 
           the story was by responding to the question: 
           “What was your favorite part of the story”? 
           Students will use the sentence 
           starter, “My favorite part of the story 
           was when__________”. There is a Book Review
           graphic organizer where students can also draw a
           and write their response (optional).

Week 4: 
This week, your child will learn how to respond to a variety of Wh-questions about a variety of topics.  Some of the social skills your child will be exposed to are:
1) following game rules,
2) learning how to take turns appropriately,
3) attending to whose turn it is,
4) responding to targeted Wh-questions for that week and
5) learning how to use correct subject pronouns when taking turns (my turn and your turn).

Wh- questions are an essential part of everyday life and their importance goes far beyond speech development. Learning to ask and answer wh- questions helps children:
* Build conversation skills
* Boost social skills
* Stimulate vocabulary development
* Demonstrate an understanding of something new
* Promote reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
* Learn how to follow directions
* Relay information to others and 
* Build relationships

Before each week if there are any worksheets that are needed, I will attach them.
