Grado de EE. UU. 4
In this 8 week class, we will learn math skills taught in 1st quarter of 4th grade. Students will be encouraged to ask questions and explain how they solved a problem. Students will learn through lecture and practice. Students will get a lot of practice problems. I will teach the topic and give examples, we break problems down and work together to solve, and then the students will work on their own problems with my help when needed. Students will be asked to use math vocabulary to explain...
16 lessons//8 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Place Value of Multi-Digit Whole NumbersInterpret a multiplication equation as a comparison. Recognize a digit represents 10 times the value of what it represents in the place to its right. Name numbers within 1 million by building understanding of the place value chart and placement of commas for naming base thousand units. Read and write multi-digit numbers using base ten numerals, number names, and expanded form.Lesson 2Comparing Multi-Digit Whole NumbersCompare numbers based on meanings of the digits using >, <, or = to record the comparison. Find 1, 10, and 100 thousand more and less than a given.Week 2Lesson 3Rounding Multi-Digit Whole NumbersRound multi-digit numbers to the thousands place using the vertical number line. Round multi-digit numbers to any place using the vertical number line. Use place value understanding to round multi-digit numbers to any place value. Use place value understanding to round multi-digit numbers to any place value using real world applications number.Lesson 4Mid-Module AssessmentStudents will solve problems using skills that we learned in the first two weeks of class. If needed we will review and go over any skills that students need extra work on. During these classes there will be less discussion than normal. Students will solve problems and send answers in the chat. If students all get the answer correct we will move on. If any student misses the problem we will go over the problem together as a class. No student will be aware of who missed the problem, since answers will be sent to only me in the chat.Week 3Lesson 5Addition Word ProblemsUse place value understanding to fluently add multi-digit whole numbers using the standard addition algorithm, and apply the algorithm to solve word problems using tape diagrams. Solve multi-step word problems using the standard addition algorithm modeled with tape diagrams, and assess the reasonableness of answers using rounding.Lesson 6Subtraction Word ProblemsUse place value understanding to decompose to smaller units once using the standard subtraction algorithm, and apply the algorithm to solve word problems using tape diagrams.Week 4Lesson 7Word ProblemsSolving addition and subtraction word problems and looking for key words to decide if we add or subtract.Lesson 8Multiplication/ Division Word ProblemsWord Problems involving multiplication and division word problems.Week 5Lesson 9Review Multiplication and DivisionWe will word on solving multiplication and division problems.Lesson 10Metric Unit ConversionsExpress metric length measurements in terms of a smaller unit; model and solve addition and subtraction word problems involving metric length.Week 6Lesson 11Metric Unit ConversionsExpress metric mass measurements in terms of a smaller unit; model and solve addition and subtraction word problems involving metric mass.Lesson 12Metric Unit Conversions Word ProblemsExpress metric capacity measurements in terms of a smaller unit; model and solve addition and subtraction word problems involving metric capacity.Week 7Lesson 13Word ProblemsKnow and relate metric units to place value units in order to express measurements in different units. Use addition and subtraction to solve multi-step word problems involving length, mass, and capacity.Lesson 14Multiplication/ Division ReviewWeek 8Lesson 15ReviewWe will review the skills we learned in 1st quarter.Lesson 16AssessmentWe will be doing an assessment over the skills we learned in 1st quarter math.
- Use the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems.2 4.OA.3 Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding. Generalize place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers. (Grade 4 expectations are limited to whole numbers less than or equal to 1,000,000.) 4.NBT.1 Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. 4.NBT.2 Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons. 4.NBT.3 Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place Use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic. 4.NBT.4 Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm 4.MD.13 Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement equivalents in a two-column table. For example, know that 1 ft is 12 times as long as 1 in. Express the length of a 4 ft snake as 48 in. Generate a conversion table for feet and inches listing the number pairs (1, 12), (2, 24), (3, 36), … 4.MD.24 Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Represent measurement quantities using diagrams such as number line diagrams that feature a measurement scale.

Frecuencia: incluidoDetalles: Students will be assessed throughout the 8 weeks by discussion and observation. We will also do assessments twice during this class to see what skills need to be further developed.
Students will need paper and pencil or whiteboard and marker for each class. Students may also need to print out worksheets to be used in class (this will not happen often and the lesson can be done without the print out if needed.)
This class will go at the speed of the students. If all the students understand a skill we will move on to the next skill faster. If the students are having a hard time with a certain skill we will spend more time on that skill.
I use common core/ Eureka Math standards to make the curriculum used in this class.
