 Week 1
Lesson 1
Life Science-Organ Systems
We begin the semester discovering our organs and how they work together. (Circulatory and Excretory). -Homework this week will be a lab on muscle movement.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Life Science-Organ Systems Continued
We continue onto new organ systems (Respiratory and Digestive). -Homework this week will be a lab on how lungs work
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Life Science-Mitosis
This week, we learn about cell division and animal growth. Building upon our cell discussion from Semester 1. -Homework this week includes a worksheet on identifying cell division stages
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Life Science-Genetics
This week, we have fun finding our inherited Traits -Homework this week will be worksheet over familial inherited traits.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Earth Science-Erosion
This week, we discover Earth's Changing surface (erosion and weathering) -Homework this week includes an experiment on making a glacier and how it erodes.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Earth Science-Volcanoes
We explore different types of volcanoes this week. -Homework this week will include a short report on a volcano of the learners' choice.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Earth Science-Fossil Fuels
What is a fossil fuel? We explore renewable and nonrenewable resources. Homework this week will include an experiment on which kinds of rocks store petroleum.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Earth Science-Weather Systems
This week, we become meteorologists and explore weather and the tools of the weather trade. Homework this week includes an at-home experiment on how the sun unevenly heats land and water.
 Week 9
Lesson 9
Earth Science-Oceans
This week is all things ocean water! Homework this week learners will see why sailors sometimes used oil to change waves
 Week 10
Lesson 10
Earth Science-Star Classification
Let's learn all about the brightness of stars and star classification. -Homework this week will see learners experimenting on why some stars are bright and others dim
 Week 11
Lesson 11
Physical Science-Physical Properties
This week we transition to physics and discuss the Physical Properties of Matter -Homework this week will be a demo using apples to demonstrate physical properties.
 Week 12
Lesson 12
Physical Science-Elements and Matter
What elements are around us? Homework this week includes an at-home experiment to group elements
 Week 13
Lesson 13
Physical Science-Forces
This week, we explore the forces that act together (Balanced and unbalanced forces). -Homework this week will be a scavenger hunt to find these forces around the home
 Week 14
Lesson 14
Physical Science-Energy
How do forces, power, and energy work together? Homework this week includes an experiment on the changing forms of energy of a tennis ball.
 Week 15
Lesson 15
Semester Review/Game
Using games and class discussion, students will review the last 14 weeks of class. Teacher feedback is sent to parents at the conclusion of the class.
  • Students will be able to explore through lecture, experiments, demonstrations, homework, and discussion the three fields of General Science....Life science, Earth science, and Physical science.
I was a middle school science teacher for 10 years. I have also homeschooled and graduated my daughter for 10 years. As a public school teacher, I taught Earth Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, Zoology, Biology, and more to hundreds of students. Science is a passion of mine and I find performing experiments both fascinating and illuminating when learning new scientific facts! In this class, students will have ample opportunity to perform their own experiments to reiterate the information they learn in class. I have my Bachelor's degree in Biology/Pre-Med and a Master's in Healthcare Administration.

All experiments utilize household materials. Some experiments may be messy. Some also may require the use of scissors to cut something. Your learner must be mature enough in your estimation to use scissors or have an adult available to help. Please read homework beforehand to determine if experiments need to be performed outside to save the house from a mess :-)
