15 lessons//15 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Life Science-Introduction to Cells
Introducing students to the very tiny cell. Homework this week will be a compare/contrasts worksheet based on microscope views of cells. (No microscope needed).
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Life Science-Classifying living organisms
Ordering and structure of living things. Homework this week includes an at-home scavenger hunt of living things and grouping activity.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Life Science-Where organisms live
Learning about ecology and habitats. Homework this week includes making a diorama of a habitat
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Life Science-Plants
Learning parts of a plant. Homework this week will be a flower dissection
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Earth Science-Rocks and Minerals
What is the difference in rocks and minerals? Homework this week includes an experiment to identify minerals
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Earth Science-Soil
Soil versus Dirt....what's the difference? Homework this week will include a soil observation
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Earth Science-Earth's Layers
Taking a tour of all the layers of our planet. Homework this week will include an at-home experiment on everyday items and if they conform to the same 3 layers of Earth
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Earth Science-Earthquakes
What is an earthquake and what causes them? Homework this week includes an at-home experiment seismic waves through land and water
 Week 9
Lesson 9
Earth Science-Space
This week we learn all about our Earth, the Moon, and the Sun. Homework this week will see learners designing a space station or moon base
 Week 10
Lesson 10
Earth Science-Sun and Stars
Learning about stars in general and our sun specifically. Homework this week will see learners modeling the Milky Way galaxy
 Week 11
Lesson 11
Physical Science-Atoms
These things that are tinier than the cells we talked about in week 1. What makes them up? Homework this week will be Edible Atoms.
 Week 12
Lesson 12
Physical Science-Physical and Chemical changes
The difference between chemical and physical changes and many opportunities to distinguish them both. Homework this week includes an at-home experiment with vinegar.
 Week 13
Lesson 13
Physical Science-Everyday Forces
Talking about force, friction, gravity.....so many forces we deal with everyday! Homework this week will be an experiment on magnetic fields and magnetism
 Week 14
Lesson 14
Physical Science-A tie-in to Earth Science
Using our info from last week about forces.....how does that explain things we see in space? Homework this week includes inertia activity
 Week 15
Lesson 15
Semester Review/Game
Using games and class discussion, students will review the last 14 weeks of class. Teacher feedback is sent to parents at the conclusion of the class
  • Students will be able to explore through lecture, experiments, demonstrations, homework, and discussion the three fields of General Science....Life science, Earth science, and Physical science.
I was a middle school science teacher for 10 years. I have also homeschooled and graduated my daughter for 10 years. As a public school teacher, I taught Earth Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, Zoology, Biology, and more to hundreds of students. Science is a passion of mine and I find performing experiments both fascinating and illuminating when learning new scientific facts! In this class, students will have ample opportunity to perform their own experiments to reiterate the information they learn in class. I have my Bachelor's degree in Biology/Pre-Med and a Master's in Healthcare Administration.

Además del aula de Outschool, esta clase utiliza:
All experiments utilize household materials. Some experiments may be messy. Some also may require the use of scissors to cut something. Your learner must be mature enough in your estimation to use scissors or have an adult available to help. Please read homework beforehand to determine if experiments need to be performed outside to save the house from a mess :-)
YouTube video sections may also be used during screensharing via PowerPoint. I will not be sharing any links to YouTube videos.
