Sigue en plan de estudios Teacher-Created
In the Semester 1 of this General/Integrated science class, learners will be studying cells, living things, earth processes, our solar system, and atoms. This 15-week class which covers one semester will meet once a week and students will also be expected to complete homework/labs at home. This is appropriate for 4th grade students or those who are 8-10 years of age. Get ready for fun activities and experiments! Paper and pencil will need to be available for each class. As an introduction to...
15 lessons//15 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Life Science-Introduction to CellsIntroducing students to the very tiny cell. Homework this week will be a compare/contrasts worksheet based on microscope views of cells. (No microscope needed).Week 2Lesson 2Life Science-Classifying living organismsOrdering and structure of living things. Homework this week includes an at-home scavenger hunt of living things and grouping activity.Week 3Lesson 3Life Science-Where organisms liveLearning about ecology and habitats. Homework this week includes making a diorama of a habitatWeek 4Lesson 4Life Science-PlantsLearning parts of a plant. Homework this week will be a flower dissectionWeek 5Lesson 5Earth Science-Rocks and MineralsWhat is the difference in rocks and minerals? Homework this week includes an experiment to identify mineralsWeek 6Lesson 6Earth Science-SoilSoil versus Dirt....what's the difference? Homework this week will include a soil observationWeek 7Lesson 7Earth Science-Earth's LayersTaking a tour of all the layers of our planet. Homework this week will include an at-home experiment on everyday items and if they conform to the same 3 layers of EarthWeek 8Lesson 8Earth Science-EarthquakesWhat is an earthquake and what causes them? Homework this week includes an at-home experiment seismic waves through land and waterWeek 9Lesson 9Earth Science-SpaceThis week we learn all about our Earth, the Moon, and the Sun. Homework this week will see learners designing a space station or moon baseWeek 10Lesson 10Earth Science-Sun and StarsLearning about stars in general and our sun specifically. Homework this week will see learners modeling the Milky Way galaxyWeek 11Lesson 11Physical Science-AtomsThese things that are tinier than the cells we talked about in week 1. What makes them up? Homework this week will be Edible Atoms.Week 12Lesson 12Physical Science-Physical and Chemical changesThe difference between chemical and physical changes and many opportunities to distinguish them both. Homework this week includes an at-home experiment with vinegar.Week 13Lesson 13Physical Science-Everyday ForcesTalking about force, friction, gravity.....so many forces we deal with everyday! Homework this week will be an experiment on magnetic fields and magnetismWeek 14Lesson 14Physical Science-A tie-in to Earth ScienceUsing our info from last week about forces.....how does that explain things we see in space? Homework this week includes inertia activityWeek 15Lesson 15Semester Review/GameUsing games and class discussion, students will review the last 14 weeks of class. Teacher feedback is sent to parents at the conclusion of the class
- Students will be able to explore through lecture, experiments, demonstrations, homework, and discussion the three fields of General Science....Life science, Earth science, and Physical science.
I was a middle school science teacher for 10 years. I have also homeschooled and graduated my daughter for 10 years. As a public school teacher, I taught Earth Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, Zoology, Biology, and more to hundreds of students. Science is a passion of mine and I find performing experiments both fascinating and illuminating when learning new scientific facts! In this class, students will have ample opportunity to perform their own experiments to reiterate the information they learn in class. I have my Bachelor's degree in Biology/Pre-Med and a Master's in Healthcare Administration.

Además del aula de Outschool, esta clase utiliza:
All experiments utilize household materials. Some experiments may be messy. Some also may require the use of scissors to cut something. Your learner must be mature enough in your estimation to use scissors or have an adult available to help. Please read homework beforehand to determine if experiments need to be performed outside to save the house from a mess :-) YouTube video sections may also be used during screensharing via PowerPoint. I will not be sharing any links to YouTube videos.
