Tarea
1-2 horas por semana. Weekly reading and optional writing assignments are given during each class. Almost all of the reading is done independently outside of class. Students are expected to read about 50-60 pages a week from the Charlotte's Web novel. Since reading speed varies widely, consider how much time it would take for your student to read about ten pages a day, five days a week. A small writing activity is introduced at the end of each class. Students who wish to receive a grade/assessment will need to finish the writing and submit it within 24 hours of the class. A typical 4th or 5th grade student should be able to complete the work in less than an hour and a half a week.
Evaluación
All students will receive an informal assessment through the Parent Conversation emails in Outschool at the end of the course. Parents who wish to receive actual letter grades for the student's finished work will need to let Miss Amy know at the beginning of the course. The graded work needs submitted within 24 hours of being assigned.

Grado de EE. UU. 3 - 5
This 5 week course is designed to cover the literary elements taught in a 3rd -- 5th grade literature/reading fiction unit. Rather than reading several short stories in a literature textbook, students will read a complete novel -- Charlotte's Web. Although Charlotte's Web is often a read-aloud in younger grades, the novel also provides upper elementary students opportunities for enjoyable study and independent reading. Third graders taking the class should be strong readers. Fifth graders struggling with reading or those who have not read this novel will enjoy the classic story.

See below for general week-by-week expectations:

Week One: Introduction to E. B. White, setting, vocabulary, descriptive writing, pages 1-42 assigned.
Week Two: Review game or quiz activity, character, vocabulary, summary writing, pages 42-90 assigned.
Week Three: Review game or quiz activity, figures of speech, vocabulary, writing activity, pages 91-137 assigned.
Week Four: Review game or quiz activity, theme, vocabulary, opinion writing, pages 138-184 assigned.
Week Five: Book Content Activity/assessment, plot mapping, possible writing assignment.

Miss Amy will use Power Point, lecture, example, discussion, games, and Q and A to teach the unit.

(Although Amy regularly teaches one learner classes, she does need at least three learners to keep the listing viable. Parents will be contacted 24 hours in advance if there is only one learner.)

Metas de aprendizaje

Students will gain experience analyzing fiction text for setting, theme, plot, figures of speech, and character study. Students will also practice paragraph writing through weekly writing activities.

I've taught numerous age groups in various settings over the years. I love discussing books and inspiring students to read more. Taking turns is promoted and guided in all of my classes, so that the talkative and shy alike can participate.
