Does your learner like to solve fun mysteries? Well, let them put on their detective hat and get to work using their 1st grade math skills! Mini Math Mysteries are a fun 'game-like' activity to practice 1st grade math skills. They follow a simple elimination structure where learners will be using the answers to the math questions to eliminate possibilities. This is an ongoing class, so you are free to join in and leave as you please.

At the beginning of each class, learners will hear a short story to preface the mystery they will be solving for the day. Then, it is time for our math detectives to get to work! Learners will answer a variety of questions based on 1st grade content to solve the mystery. They will fist solve the math questions, and then they will look for their answers in the boxes and eliminate the boxes with a matching answer on our shared screen. After answering all questions, only one image will remain (that image will contain a number that didn't match any of the answers to the questions) and that box is the solution to our mystery!

Some of the math concepts we will be working on include:

-Comparing Numbers
-Missing Numbers in Addition and Subtraction Sentences
-Number Words
-Reading Bar Graphs
-Addition and Subtraction within 20
-Addition within 20 (Questions and Word Problems)
-Subtraction within 20 (Questions and Word Problems)
-Adding Doubles and Near Doubles
-Adding three single-digit numbers
-Comparing Numbers (up to 50) – Circle the Greatest/Least
-Place Value Models - Base Ten Blocks (1-20)
-Adding Ten to Double-Digit Numbers
-Missing Numbers up to 55
-Mix of Addition & Subtraction (within 20)
-Missing Addends (Sums are less than 20)
-Read & Write Time (O'Clock only)
-10 More or Less
-Comparing numbers up to 100 (circle the greatest/least)
-Read Tally Graphs
-Adding 10 to double-digit numbers (vertical algorithm format)
-Read and Interpret a Bar Graph
-Place Value Tens & Ones
-Adding Multiples of Ten
-Add a one-digit number to a double-digit number (no regrouping)

Hello, my name is Kristi. I am a married fur-mom to two dogs, Olaf and Olivia. I enjoy reading, being outdoors, learning new things, and going on adventures with my husband!

I have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. I also have a MBA concentrating in Accounting. Math is a big passion of mine! I am a certified PreK-5 teacher in the state of Georgia. I also hold current Gifted and Talented, Special Education, and TESOL education certifications. I have been teaching in some capacity for 11 years with experience in all elementary grade levels, from pre-K to 5th grade! I taught at a private preschool for 1 year and the rest of my teaching years have been in a public school setting or online. In May of 2019, I began a new endeavor, teaching ESL online to students in China. I absolutely love teaching online and meeting students all the way across the world! As a teacher, I believe it is my responsibility to make learning fun, help and encourage students to be successful in learning, and fostering a love for learning at an early age. In my classroom, you will see plenty of activities for varying learning styles, lots of movement and interactive activities, and learning through play.

I am passionate about teaching young children, and I look forward to meeting your learner(s) and helping them develop their young minds! I can't wait to meet you in the classroom!
