15 minute guided piano practice session with Ms Nefeli, specifically designed for students who need a little extra help staying on track, and for parents who need one less thing to stress about! All levels welcome. W H A T T O E X P E C T This is a 15 minute guided practice session not a "piano lesson". Its purpose is to help students practice between classes and is not a substitute for lessons. Students are expected to already be enrolled in weekly piano lessons (with any teacher) and have lesson assignments that they need to work on. This class is for any student who needs support practicing, and especially helpful for learners who struggle with task initiation (Executive Dysfunction, Autism, or ADHD, learning disabilities) My teaching style is casual and friendly. I like connecting with each student and really understanding their strengths and challenges. For the younger learner, I have games to make it more engaging and fun, and for older students we can work on tips and tricks to isolate and practice tricky passages. Examples of Practice topics we could address include: 🐱 Copy Cat: I show students how to play (by rote, reading, or ear) and then they copy. 🔁 Repetition: Students repeat a certain passage focussing on a goal (ex rhythm, notes, dynamics, articulation). Can incorporate manipulatives like little dolls or figurines to keep track of repetitions. 🍭 Sticky Spots: work on a tricky area in a piece by breaking it down to small (or super small) manageable chunks. Then expanding sections to notes before and after. 🥁 Rhythm focus: eliminating pauses and keeping the beat. This could include rhythm work (clapping, tapping) and / or duet playing 📓 Analysis: especially helpful for spotting patterns and memorizing I M P O R T A N T N O T E Students should take a photo of their music and upload it to the classroom before each class as I need to make sure I am seeing the same music as they are. (if you are working from piano adventures or royal conservatory of music books, you can skip this step :) To get the most out of these sessions, I recommend scheduling 2 classes per week. But you can also just book one class a week, or book as needed.

Hi, I'm Nefeli!
I'm a certified Online Music Teacher with with a BA in Psychology and a special interest in music and how we learn.
I've been teaching piano for over 20 years, as well as tutoring high school math and study skills. I'm a relationship first teacher which means I take time to get to know my students and find out how they learn and what their strengths and challenges are. I always focus on strengths first to build confidence and a love of music!
I am neurodiversity affirming which means that no matter your ability or disability, you will have access to high quality music education and that no matter your neurotype, you are welcome to be yourself. You can stim, you can play with your fidgets or doodle, you can turn off your camera, you can type your answers in the chat if that is your preference.
I have a variety of classes to suit your needs, including
- Just Games! (Fun way to reinforce theory)
- Camps
- No practice group classes
- master workshops on various topics (such as emotions and music, performance anxiety, rhythm, composers)
- 1:1 lessons
- 20 minute focussed practice sessions
- and more!
Fun facts about me:
1. I call myself the Neurodivergent Piano Teacher because it's easier than saying "I'm autistic and have ADHD and bipolar and executive dysfunction and prosopagnosia and aphantasia and anxiety and I teach piano" 😅.
2. I have been bellydancing for many years and have recently started learning ballet. While I love middle Eastern music, I have to admit that the piano music during ballet class really makes my soul happy.
