Is your student struggling with reading? Are you unsure on how to help them move forward with their reading skills? 
My approach for helping students progress and improve upon reading is through gamification: fun lessons using interactive games. The lessons I base my class on is the Explode the Code series of books. 

This class helps students learn the beginning phonetic sounds of the alphabet including one-syllable words ending in a long vowel, including y, silent e, digaph sh, digraph th, wh, digraph ch, trigraph, tch, digraph ng, ck, digraphs silent e, vowel digraphs ee, ea, vowel digraphs ai, ay, vowel digraphs ai, ay, vowel oa, ow, vowel digraphs. Students will complete reading, writing, and spelling activities using nearpod.com for interactive learning by drawing on the screen. (paper and pencil will be needed for some of the pages as well). An interactive game will be played at the end of the lesson as well to reinforce what the student had learned in class.  In class the teacher will use screen sharing to show student activities covering the phonetic sound that we will do together in class.   

Lessons are lined up as the following: 
Lesson 1: one syllable words ending in a long vowel including y; 
Lesson 2: silent e 
Lesson 3: silent e; 
Lesson 4: silent e with consonant blends
Lesson 5: digraph sh; 
Lesson 6: digraph th, wh
Lesson 7: digraph ch, trigraph tch; 
Lesson 8: digraph ng, ck
Lesson 9: review ; 
Lesson 10: vowel digraphs ee, ea
Lesson 11 Aug 16: vowel digraphs ai, ay; 
Lesson 12 Aug 23: vowel digraphs oa, ow
Lesson 13 Aug 30: review 


At the end of class we will have an interactive game time on one of three sites: nearpod;  using the sounds learned in that class.  It is recommended students have another device to play the game on but it is not required. Students can play on the same device they are in the zoom classroom in. This is also recommended for the lesson as well. Parents are encouraged to be prepared before class and be available to help their students with this portion of the class if needed. At the end of class a PDF worksheet will be provided in the outschool classroom, and a link and code to the game on nearpod to play after class is over independently.
