***I'm taking a sabbatical from teaching until the Fall 2024 to recharge and pursue some personal projects. I'm looking forward to returning refreshed and energized.*** Tap into hyper focus. Master reading comprehension for top scores through brief academic readings. Learn and apply tips given from the reading coach to see growth in short bursts of reading. Reading coaching is direct instruction to remove errors in comprehension as they are presented by the student during the reading practice application of the class meeting. Teacher is knowledgeable in the area of reading comprehension and analysis and how to gain improvement quickly, as a result of that knowledge, teacher is free to select an area displayed in the student verbal reading to deliver coaching. Teacher will send a snapshot photo of the reading task (s) completed by your student. Class structure includes: brief welcome, topic given, instruction, coach session #1, apply instruction, revised verbal reading while applying teacher tips, acknowledge areas of growth (praise), answer student questions, warm goodbye. Students will improve their understanding differences in reading fluency, comprehension, and reading prosody and how these areas impact their understanding and expression. Three sentences to paragraphs in length: the readings will be brief. More than likely, an entire story would not be read in class. The coaching happens within the written excerpt not within the story itself. Teacher will listen to the student sample and identify the fastest area for improvement or the area with the largest need. Teacher will help students to apply hyper focus and tips on how to integrate the tips into their reading practice. Teacher will model correct reading pacing and comprehension techniques. Teacher will identify strategies students may exhibit that are time wasters. Therefore to make sure the student is able to produce original writing during the time given, the teacher will type the students' ideas as they are given. No paper or pencil will be needed. *Students will need to have their camera on and participate fully. *I will keep note of which lesson your student has completed, in case a break is needed due to vacation or absence. *This is not a lecture type of class. Students do need to participate fully. Due to the nature of this course, a student should have at least a beginner level of English fluency. The teacher's goal is for your student to write at the beginning college level by the time our lessons are complete. That is a large goal and dependent on the effort your student puts into class and how much they want to learn and grow. This class can meet once per week as an on-going extra curricular class for your student. Teacher suggests no more than two coaching meetings per day and no more than four coaching lessons per week with a day in between meetings. If parent or student would like to complete two coaching meetings on the same day, teacher can adjust the class meeting times to reflect this. Teacher has 50 lessons ready to go which are adapted to the individual needs of your student. ***This class is not a tutoring class. During class time, teacher will not help the student complete an assignment for another class or essay submission. If that sort of tutoring is needed, please contact the teacher and teacher will guide you toward the tutoring courses she has available.***

I have taught middle and high school English Language Arts for 17 years. I have taught English literature and composition for advanced students preparing for private high schools with even higher aspirations of attending ivy league schools. I have taught at all grade levels from grades 4 through 12. I have tutored adult college students in these areas as well. I have taught students with minimal English and have taught seventh grade students who read at first grade level. I have achieved great success for myself while completing courses in my doctoral program.
