1:1 Reading Assessment in Letter Sounds, Fluency & Comprehension. Are you wondering how to support your learner with their reading? Are you concerned about their progress, whether they're struggling or needing extension? This is for students who have had at least a year of schooling, and you've noticed they are either struggling or need extension in this area. I will assess a student's reading skills in both word recognition and language comprehension, using this evidence to identify strengths and learning goals. Note: This class is specifically for reading assessments. I highly recommend continuing 1:1 tutoring with me to support reading progress. Outline: Lesson 1: Decoding Assessment - phonemic awareness - letter sounds, non-words, heart (sight) words, decodable texts - simple comprehension questions - short break in between activities if needed Approx. 45 minutes, sometimes less if students have little decoding experience. Lesson 2: Comprehension Assessment - if students are ready, they will progress to this session (if not, this session is not required for an analysis of their reading as it is currently beyond their ability) - a word list will determine which passages of text the student will read - students will summarise the passages - a series of comprehension questions will be asked in response to the passages (e.g. literal, inference, vocabulary questions) Approx. 45 minutes, sometimes less. A written summary of results and next steps will be provided after the last session. Decoding Assessment
The first assessment will identify a student's phonemic awareness, their phoneme-grapheme (letter sound) relationship knowledge, non-words, heart (sight) words, and short decodable texts with 2 simple comprehension questions. A short break will be offered between activities if students need refreshment before continuing the assessment.
Approx. 45 mins, less if the student has little letter-sound knowledge.

Comprehension Assessment
This assessment will be undertaken if students meet the requirements of the first session (decoding). This next session will identify a student's ability to read fluently, retell events in a short passage, and answer a range of comprehension questions which require different reading skills.
Approx. 45mins, less if only one or two passages are required.

This series of assessments has been designed to fully assess reading skills in decoding, fluency and comprehension. Supports students with dyslexic traits by identifying gaps and suggesting next steps.
Requisitos previos
For native English speakers, bilingual or multilingual speakers with English as one of their languages.
Students must be at least 6 years of age and had some reading instruction either in public school, international school or home school.

Hello! My name is Miss T. I’m a certified primary school teacher with a Master of Teaching, a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Second Language Education, and a Certificate in ESOL Home Tutoring.
I love teaching literacy. I have worked alongside literacy experts in my educational leadership roles and am very experienced in extending gifted learners beyond the scope of their current grade level, as well as supporting those who need acceleration. I thoroughly enjoy broadening their horizons even further through reading!
I have several years of classroom experience delivering carefully planned, targeted curriculum to children aged 5 to 13. My other specialties are literature, ESOL, mathematics, visual arts, and social-emotional skills.
