Experiencia de clase
*This one session class can be repeated as often as needed with the same session leader.* For kids with ADHD and Autism, we find it is helpful to build connection with the session leader first. This can apply to any child for whom conversations and social situations are challenging. This 1:1 session allows us to provide conversational practice such as sharing special interests and how to talk about YOUR special interests in a way that engages others. Shared interests are a good way to make a friend! Sometimes we need to build trust in order to feel confident enough to share in the group. Let us know any specific accommodations as identified by the learner. Get to know when you need a break and how to be responsive to your own needs. We will discuss strategies for self-advocacy. Please note: this is not to be confused with masking our uniqueness with scripts or forced behavioral changes, we will NOT encourage that. ESL Friendly, any level of CEFR A, B, or C welcome. This class is also useful for Guided Conversation practice for ESL students. Social classes satisfy BC’s curriculum/BC Ministry of Education for K–12 around communication studies through: acquiring and presenting information; focusing on intent and purpose in delivery; and connecting and engaging with others. *This class directly relates to the B.C. Government Education Curriculum under: Physical and Health Education Curricular Competencies, and Mental well-being and Social and community health. In particular we address communication skills, proposing and identifying strategies in social situations, self advocacy and group dynamics.
