Experiencia de clase

In this ten week class, we will focus on different flute-centric topics in order to improve general playing and to keep skills fresh over the summer. We will cover Tone, Vibrato, Proper Practice, Technique, Articulation, and Breathing. These topics will overlap, however we will intensively focus on a topic in two-week increments. We will follow an "I do, we do, you do" format, where I will demonstrate a technique on my instrument, we play the technique together as a class, then I spot check each learner individually. There will be time at the end of each lesson for questions. I will make recordings available on the classroom message board of all exercises we cover so the learner can hit play and practice along with me during the week between classes. Each class will have a handout available for printout with any exercises we will cover in class.

Lesson 1: Introduction and Proper Breathing
Lesson 2: Tone Production (Harmonics and Long Tones)
Lesson 3: Tone Color (Dynamics)
Lesson 4: Vibrato
Lesson 5: Proper Practice Techniques (Work Smarter, Not Harder)
Lesson 6: Scales (Major, Minor, and Chromatic)
Lesson 7: Combining Scales and Technique exercises
Lesson 8: Articulation (Style, Speed, and Double Tonguing)
Lesson 9: Practical Application (How do we put what we learned into music)
*I will provide etudes/excerpts for the learners to work on
Lesson 10: Etude/Excerpt presentation
*Learners will play prepared etudes and excerpts in a masterclass format.

All materials will be open source and on handouts. Many of these techniques will be taken from my own almost 30 years of flute playing. These are PRACTICAL techniques that will help your student be a more successful flutist.

Hi! I'm Laura Boor, and I have been a private flute teacher for 23 years. I am teaching individual weekly half-hour private flute and/or piccolo lessons, beginning flute and piccolo workshops, and several 10 week flute classes (bootcamps and etude classes), and audition preparation classes.

I have worked with beginners through adults. I love to play the flute, and I always tell my students we need to work smarter, not harder. I love finding different techniques that can help us learn quicker and more efficient ways of learning.

I studied flute performance at Oakland University, and have worked in the Metro Detroit area as a teacher and performer for the past 20 years. I also work for All Elite Wrestling (AEW)'s music department as Orchestral Editor. I am married, have an 12 year old who plays piano, bassoon and tuba, and a dachshund named Klaus who is my everything.

I love to teach, and have been teaching on Zoom this entire pandemic, and I am so excited to work with you!!!!!
