Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. Kindergarten - 6
In this one-on-one ongoing class, I teach everything from the foundations of literacy through the Waldorf Steiner lens specifically for your child through to geometry of upper primary classes, Norse myths through the English and arts lens to Greek and Roman poetry and Roman Numerals. This means I am able to tailor the lessons to what your child needs and what level they are at. This class meets once a week but you are welcome to sign up for more.

For primary literacy through the Waldorf Steiner focus, it begins with alphabet study, focusing on one letter study at a time. In these lessons I begin by telling a story (usually through a fairy tale or traditional story listed below) to introduce the letter and letter sound. The stories I tell are oral and I do not use a picture book to read it. The child will use their imaginations to envision the story and, therefore, make it easier to see the shapes and pictures in the letters.
We explore the shape of the letter (capital first) and the relationship of the letter and letter sound to a character in the story through a drawing. The student will draw the letter and the picture in the letter with me. This picture helps the child recognize the letter and sound together. For example, B is for bear in Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
After the drawing and writing are complete we will use movement to help the student draw on all aspects of the letter to learn the name and sound.
The alphabet is not taught in alphabetical order and vowels (or 'angel letters' in Waldorf Steiner schools) are taught at the end.

Here is a list of the letters and corresponding stories I use to create the learning lessons. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have if you are unsure of the sequence and style.

Week 1: Letter B - Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Week 2: Letter G- The Golden Goose
Week 3: Letter K - King Thrushbeard
Week 4: Letter M - Simeli Mountain (Grimms Fairytale)
Week 5: Letter W - The Little Mermaid (Hans Christian Anderson)
Week 6: Letter J - The Crow and the Jug (Aesop's Fable)
Week 7: Letter C - The Cave of the Beasts (Chinese Folktale)
Week 8: Letter F - The Fisherman and the Magic Fish
Week 9 - Letter D - The Ugly Duckling (Hans Christian Anderson)
Week 9: Letter H - The Hut in the Forest or Baba Yaga (Russian fairy tale)
Week 10: Letter V- The Golden River (English fairy tale)
Week 11: Letter R - The Golden River (English fairy tale)
Week 12: Letter S - The Six Swans (Grimm German Fairy Tale)
(***Please note that the stories told are in their original form as written down from the oral tales. They are not the Disney stories.)

Math is connective and drawings are used to help create representations for the learners.

For older children who have the literacy foundations, I use the Steiner Australian Curriculum to prepare lessons for the children according to literacy, numeracy, geography, etc. I use stories, poetry and tales from ancient mythology to historical perspectives to link real world relationships into study. I use art to help make visual connections (painting, clay work, pastel) and movement to help kinesthetic learners.

As these classes are tailored to your child's needs, I do ask for some background information on what areas your child needs support in and the best style of learning your child will pick up.

Orientación para padres
The fairy tales and stories told are in their original form (not Disney form). Some of these stories do not have 'happy' endings but have traditional endings. (Example, the original story of The Little Mermaid does not see Ariel marrying the prince, she turns into sea foam.) These tales are traditional and used in Waldorf Steiner schools in their original forms. I will use the original forms in my class. Please check the stories before class if you have any concerns.
Lista de útiles escolares
Paper and colored crayons (block crayons work best for this).
More materials may be added according to the child's needs in the lesson.
A cleared space in a room, enough for a child to move their arms and legs about, might be needed for some movement activities with the letters.
Idioma en el que se imparte la clase

I use fairy tale books for the story component. There are several different books I use but most are based on the Grimm Fairy Tales. I will use the stories in the original format, not in a Disney style context. Please familiarize yourself with the original texts or feel free to ask me any questions regarding the stories.
