Get $5 off my classes with coupon code LACHAPH88J5 until Oct 31, 2023. Look through my classes at https://outschool.com/teachers/Amelia-G-La-Chance and enter the coupon code at checkout. This class is an excellent course for students looking to expand their skills, and learn to make conceptual and original work based on their interests. In this course, I will discuss the student's current body of work with the student to find what goals they have in art and areas that the student would enjoy and benefit from working on. Students will also be taught how to properly photograph and label their works, as well as how to engage in a critique. The projects and schedule can, and typically are, changed based on what the parent and student feel they would like to develop skills in and learn about. As this is a portfolio building class, it is perfect for students who are preparing for applications, whether it be for college or for art-focused high school. Please note that this course will vary based on the age and skillset of the participating learner. Students considering this course should have some prior experience in art. Prior to the first class, it would be beneficial to me if the student or parent sends pictures of works the student has already done so that I may get an idea of their skillset. Is there a specific skill your learner would like to improve on? Let me know and we can make it happen! For example, if your learner is determined to draw realistically, I will adjust the schedule to meet these specific goals. 30 minute classes- $32 45 minute classes- $45 60 minute classes- $60 **Please contact to set up a time that works best for you and your learner** This schedule is not concrete and likely will be different from person to person. This is merely a jumping off point as I want both the learner and the parent to play a role in creating a class that is perfect for the learner. Week 1: We will spend a little time getting to know one another and discussing previous artworks made, students goals, and specific elements of art that the student would like to develop in. Still life! I will have the student work on a still life drawing with little to no guidance so I can get an idea on their thought process as well as their specific approach. We will then discuss the still life and proceed to begin a new one in which I will be demonstrating and guiding them. Week 2: Figure Drawing! We will spend the first class this week on timed gesture drawing and will expand from there. Images will be provided. This will help students with body proportions. Week 3: Figure Drawings with India Ink, we will be discussing and experimenting with a number of approaches. Week 4: Charcoal and Pencil Portait work. We will be observing ourselves from life when participating in this work. Week 5: Hand drawing week! We will be developing methods on hand drawing and will be playing around with gestural hand drawing, blind contour drawing, and thorough hand drawing. Images will be provided. Ball point pen is encouraged. Week 6: Watercolor painting! We will begin with playing around with the paint and different techniques, as well as practicing mixing colors. The student and I will then decide on a subject matter they would enjoy and will complete it with watercolor. Week 7: Abstract experimental painting with acrylic paint, india ink, yarn. I will also teach the student how to mix skin tones. Week 8: 1st original project with colored pencil. Student will work to plan and design the piece before beginning. Week 9: Student will continue to work on their original piece and will finish. Week 10: Student will decide on one of the modules taught and revisit it and will be taught how to approach this with independant planning and how to think about the work. Week 11: Art History project. Student will find 3 artists they admire and create a piece in which they imitate the style. Week 12: Student will continue and finish this piece. Week 13: Last week!! This week we will be working on a fun collage! Please collect magazines and newspapers for this project.

Dear Families,
I have loved and cherished art for my entire life and my hope is that I may be able to ignite or strengthen this love for art within my students. I want to extend to you and your child my warmest welcome into my virtual classroom.
My philosophy for learning in the art room revolves around differentiating instruction for each student’s individual needs. Coming together into the classroom, we each bring with us our goals, desires, our histories, our struggles, and our joys. Art allows us to express these aspects about ourselves and I believe it is important to do so. Through each of our projects, I will work with every individual learner to adjust the parameters to their interests and skill set while challenging them to always push forward.
Through my virtual classroom, I will be teaching art classes in painting, drawing, and even some sculpture for all ages and for all creative minds! We will work with a wide variety of materials, techniques, and analytical thought processes in each of my classes.
Through my undergraduate career, I received a BFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Sculpture and a BSE in K-12 Art Education, both in the spring of 2023. Beginning in the Fall of 2023, I will be pursuing a Master's in Fine Art in the highly ranked MFA program at Arizona State University. I have been teaching on Outschool since May of 2020 and have assisted artists in residence and students at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in Vermont during their summer 2022 stone carving workshops. I have created and sold a wide variety of artwork professionally, such as drawings, paintings, and sculptures, and have exhibited in a variety of art galleries. I am highly passionate about art and I strongly believe that when doing artwork, you are building a relationship with your materials and the creation itself. Throughout my time doing and practicing artwork, I have learned that art is a powerful force that can be meditative and help connect you with yourself and the values you carry.
With all this being said, I am happy to receive any comments, questions, or concerns through Outschool messaging. I look forward to working with your child and supporting them in every step of the process through their artistic endeavors!
Sincerely,
Amelia LaChance
