At Math with Mac, our motto is 'work hard, play hard". We learn math by connecting to real-world experiences and letting the students set the pace. Each class is structured into four parts: 1. Check-in 2. Master topics covered in school or homeschooling by completing test prep, homework help, review, or acceleration 3. Assess Learning. When Students feel confident in the skill, they can demonstrate their learning by completing the skill three times without help. 4. Assign extra practice (optional) and set goals for the next session A summary will be sent to the parent after every session. If we don't get to everything in one session that is ok! It's important to go at the student's pace to create a stress-free environment. Topics include but are not limited to: 1. The number system (Fractions, decimals, and percents review) 1. Converting fractions, decimals, and percents without a calculator 2. Converting fractions, decimals, and percents with a calculator 3. Connecting fractions, decimals, and percents to the real world 2. The Number System 1. Adding/subtracting positive and negative numbers 2. Multiplying/dividing positive and negative numbers 3. Making zero or 1 with positive or negative numbers 3. Ratios and Proportional Relationships 1. Identifying proportional relationships 2. Finding Unit Rate 3. I have over a decade of experience working with youth through mentoring, working in special education, college-level tutoring, teaching English language learners, and teaching gifted and talented students!
I have spent four years working as a volunteer mentor with 6th through 10th-grade students. While studying at University, I tutored fellow college students in statistics and psychology courses. I also have experience working in special education as a special education technician assisting in reading and math instruction. Through my year-long pre-service teacher education program, I taught 5th and 7th-grade students in mathematics. As a classroom teacher, I teach 6th-grade general education mathematics, 6th-grade mathematics for English Language Learners, and 7th-grade gifted and talented mathematics.
