Are you looking for an exciting talent or skill for a talent show or speech and drama competition? Would you like some help to make your own mime videos/performances? Have you ever watched someone performing mime and wondered how do they do that? or do you want to develop your existing mime skills? In this acting class, you will learn (or re-cap) what mime is and the first starting points of how to perform it. From what ‘placing’ is, to how to show an audience the dynamics (height, width, depth, weight) of an invisible object. Don’t worry though you don’t need any prior mime, or even acting/performing experience, to take part in this fun, active class. Costumes and white gloves are always welcome too! 'Mime is the art of creating the illusion of reality'- Claude Kipnis The class will start with an especially created warm-up (and an explanation of why it is still important to warm up, even though we are not interacting with real objects), before learners will learn how to show there are invisible, imaginary objects right in front of them. We will then move on to showing how to push, pull, and lift a large object before starting to create our own short mime performance piece that can be developed into a talent show spot or even a video or series of videos. *For older or experienced mime artists we can work on mime techniques from the famous mime artist Jacques Lecoq who even set up his own school in France for studying mime. 'I simply ask them to keep silent, the better to understand what lies beneath language'. We will look at the use of breathing and how it changes the look and feel of a move, explore tension, the neutral mask, and a mime's reactions. Learners will also get to work on their mime persona and costume ideas and learn why mimes dress as they do. I look forward to seeing you in class.............and don’t forget to bring your invisible, imaginary boxes with you too!
Metas de aprendizaje
Learners will learn how to mime or how to develop these new skills into a mini-performance piece.
