Class Experience

The learning goals for this class are
1. To increase students understanding of where their food comes from and why it's important to eat certain foods.
2. To teach some beginning concepts of healthy eating, including about food groups and the importance of balance, and the concept
that eating too many "empty calories" means that we may not get enough of nutrients that we need.
3. To increase students awareness of what they eat and their sense of being able to make choices about their eating.
I have seven years of training with the Child and Adult Care Nutrition Program and a lifelong interest in nutrition and cooking. I also grow a large (600 sf/23 sq m) vegetable garden in my backyard, and I bake with whole grains almost daily.
Optional practice sheets and extra activity ideas will be provided each week.
Families will be encouraged to try new foods together outside of class hours.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
This curriculum is funded by the USDA and is provided free of charge to early childhood educators.
