Class Experience

Come and join me for movement and for learning different dance styles. Each week I'll cover a different theme/style: from cumbia to salsa to a little bit of country and rock n roll we will have fun grooving to the beat of the music. The class will include a warm up and cool down stretch, I'll break down the movement and share how to "hear" the style in the music. Not going to be super technical, but just building an awareness. No previous dance experience necessary and no limitations as I have taught children and adults who are seated with limitations as well. The idea is to encourage movement, exercise inspired by music.

Learning Goals

Students who are participating can improve coordination and mind body awareness. Teaching kids how cardio dance and fitness in general can keep them active, healthy and happy. Students will learn how important warm up exercises and stretching is important to recovery and reducing muscle soreness. I'll also be sharing how dance fitness can be a fun cross training activity for the young sports athlete--great for cardiovascular, endurance and strength.

Parental Guidance
I ask that students please be respectful and kind to each other and keep open minds as we all are coming in from different levels. I'll do my best to show multiple ways to help children move, give imagery to help them be creative and find their own dance style. Music will sometimes be in spanish, however all music will be free from explicit language at all times.
Supply List
Students should wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing that allows them to move freely. No barefeet, tennis shoes or dance jazz shoes if available. If possible, avoid dancing on a carpeted surface or loose rugs and clear your space so you can move forward, backwards and diagonally 6ft or more. As in any activity, try to eat a small snack 30-60min prior to starting for energy and have a water bottle nearby. Parents and siblings of all ages are welcome to join in dancing with us!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! Currently I am offering a variety of classes including crafts, music and fitness & nutrition. I enjoy creating things....be it something with my hands or music, choreography for exercising and baking in the kitchen. Crafting--I learned skills from my mother who taught me how to crochet, cross-stitch, and sewing at a young age. Music--I have a degree in Viola Performance from Central Michigan University and have performed internationally. Fitness & Nutrition--NCPT personal trainer and ACE fitness instructor, I have been teaching classes for over 10 years in the NW suburbs of Chicago. Movement and Music is so important to teach to our children, those connections in the brain made at a young age impact us for the rest of our lives. I look forward to creating fun, engaging and interactive classes to inspire and build mind and body connections in young students.
