Description
Class Experience
Students will improve science literacy skills and widen their scientific vocabulary by reading articles. Students will learn about various zoological discoveries, studies, or news.
I am a biology, zoology, and environmental science and have taught both students from ages 9-18. Before teaching, I conducted wildlife research and worked directly with animals at an aquarium, a primate sanctuary, and two major science museums. Animals are my favorite!
Students will be given one article to read at home each week. I will strive to pick articles that are both challenging and age-appropriate. I will provide a synopsis of the article at the beginning of the class for any students who were unable to read the article.
Articles will be provided at least three days prior to the class each week.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Please note that I have no control over ads on news sites. I suggest installing an ad blocker if you are concerned. Articles may include topics that may upset sensitive students, like extinction, animal predation (and the mortality of prey), threats to animal survival, illnesses/diseases, evolution, etc. Mating and reproduction may be discussed in very broad terms. If you have concerns about a week's topic, please feel free to read the article before your student does or reach out to me with any concerns. All articles are screened for age-appropriate topics and language.
Articles will be provided weekly.
