In this course we will be using Minecraft to learn all about different animals and their habitats. We will be building their habitats during class ; making our own minecraft zoo! Each week we will pick one new animal to learn about. A list of animals can be found below. If students wish to change the animal and all agree then the list can be changed. Class will begin by learning about our animal and it’s habitat. We will learn about the animal in real life vs Minecraft to be able to better understand how to build their habitat. We will also learn about but the minecraft version of the same animals and compare and contrast the differences or similarities. Students will then be allowed to build during class. I will be available for any questions and they can talk amongst each other discussing what they are building. At the end of class we will all share our builds. Students can build in creative mode. Week 1: Axolotls Week 2: Pandas Week 3: Polar bears Week 4: Squid Week : Ocelot Week 6: Chicken Week 7: Ender Dragon Week 8: Pig Students will be able to do A short build challenge at the end of class if they still have time. We will also be including Nearpod in some classes to incorporate fun games for learning about but the animals.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone! My name is Chelsea and I love to teach just about anything but I especially love teaching about nature and animals! I have a Bachelors degree in Environmental Sciences and a history in teaching.
I was a zookeeper for three years and loved educating the guests about the amazing animals we had on site. Some of my favorite animals to teach about were the reptiles we had. They all had such interesting abilities that we often overlook.
I have a long history of working with kids. I was extremely involved with my churches children’s groups. I taught a cheerleading squad for kindergartens for one year and a bell choir for k-5th grade for one year. I also was a band aide for two high schools in my area and a private music tutor for many years.
My teaching philosophy is to make it fun! I never want my students to dread leading. I want to engage with them in subjects they love so I can foster a love of learning in them. I find when schooling my own children that if it’s something they are interested in that they’re more involved in the learning process. We can learn from just about anything and I’m excited to see what your kids are interested in!
Hope to see you in class!
