In this class, students will explore the animals at the zoo and how a zookeeper takes care of them. Students will learn what the daily life is like for a zookeeper. They will learn about the different jobs and tasks that a zookeeper performs. Students will then get the opportunity to practice the tasks and/or watch a video demonstration. Students will also learn what education and experience they will need to get a job as a zookeeper. Students will participate in an interactive Power Point format. Students will answer questions about the animals at the zoo (ex. what they eat.) Students will also use math skills to solve a story problem
Learning Goals
Students will be able to learn what a zookeeper does and how they care for the animals.
Students will be able to identify potentially harmful items in an animals enclosure.
Students will be able to talk about how we can help the zoo's animal cousins in the wild.
Students will be able to select the correct food for the right animals.
Students will be able to sort food
Students will be able to share the reasons the animals are trained.
Students will be able to identify the common animals that live at the zoo
Students will be able to use the handout to record their day as a zookeeper
Students will be able to talk about their stuffed animal that they brought to class and how they can take care of it as a Zookeeper.
Students will obtain a zookeeper certification and ID badge after class.
