Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Welcome to, "Zoo Yoga"! In this class, students will learn relaxation strategies through movement yoga, and weekly animal facts! A pillar of a successful learning experience is the ability for children to absorb new information-this can only be done when their minds are open and relaxed. In this class, we will learn deep breathing and movement strategies to help their bodies calm down, stretch, feel good, and focus. We will also learn facts about a weekly animal!

The format for the class is as follows:

~Begin with a quick introduction (ice breaker question, weekend plans, etc.) and animal fact (please note, participation in the discussion is absolutely not required as I understand not all students are ready to share...a safe learning environment is the utmost importance in my class)
~Read a book about the animal of the week (fiction and/or non-fiction)
~Second animal fact, opportunity for student sharing
~Learn and practice an animal themed yoga pose (the teaching of the pose will be pre-recorded to preserve integrity of the pose and timeliness of the class)
~Class wrap up and send off

*Students will be provided an animal drawing activity and/or craft to work on at home*

Below you will find the animal theme for each week:
Week 1: Elephant
Week 2: Crocodile
Week 3: Butterfly
Week 4: Turtle
Week 5: Tiger
Week 6: Flamingo
Week 7: Giraffe
Week 8: Lizard
Week 9: Shark
Week 10: Camel
Week 11: Snake
Week 12: Eagle

This is a 12 week course, but you may choose to drop in or out as you feel necessary. After the 12 weeks, I will repeat the themes.

I look forward to meeting you!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, and welcome to my page! My name is Ms. Allie, and I am a passionate educator with 15 years of teaching experience. I have taught a variety of grades; pre-K, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th-8th grade. I have taught both in person and virtually, but over the last 5 years I have found a real love for virtual learning!

I hold a B.A in elementary education with an emphasis in Language Arts and Spanish education (K-8). I am very passionate about English Language Arts and have been fortunate to each multiple classes that focus on the creative arts.

I also hold a M.A in Educational Psychology. My masters degree focused on researching what makes a classroom successful, and what makes a learner thrive. In my research, a successful student really comes down to feeling safe in their learning environment. In my classes, I strive to ensure that every learner feels safe, respected, valued, and comfortable.

In addition to academic teaching, I also hold a yoga teacher certificate (YT200) and have taught yoga to both adults and youth for the past 5 years. It has been a dream to be able to combine my love for teaching with my love for yoga.

On a personal level, I love to be outdoors and spend my free time exploring nature with my daughter, bike riding, hiking, cooking, and reading.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, and I look forward to hopefully meeting you!
