US Grade 5 - 8
Many people think they could survive the Zombie Apocalypse, but could you during the American Colonial Period? I can lead you to the right information, but you must make your own decisions to survive.

To survive you must learn about the three main colonial regions: New England, Middle, and Southern. What is each region’s top industry, their climate, and their abundant resources? You also need to know what type of people you will be dealing with and how their social structure or religion may play a role.

We will learn by charting information, creating a regional map, designing a fortified base, and packing a "bug out bag "(survival bag) with only 10 supplies all based on actual, historical facts (except for the zombie part :0)

We will find relevant information together on several websites using provided, downloadable charts, watching YouTube videos, and listening to each other’s sharing at the beginning of each class.

There will be some task completion left that we do not get to in the class time that may leave students with a maximum of 30 minutes of work for the week depending how in depth they want to go.

A VARIETY OF GREAT HANDOUTS FOR YOUR PORTFOLIOS!!!!

I have always been very curious and creative and I love to inspire it in kids (both my own and others) as well. I like to teach through projects, which give students a choice on the way they learn and show their understanding. I also love to teach through games and like to combine game elements in my classes.

I believe history, studied in context, to be extremely important. In fact, it's one of our best teachers. The other "subject" I believe to be of high importance is Logic. Unfortunately, logic has long been left off most curriculums. Knowing how to examine events and history through logical thinking and analysis gives us a deep, true understanding of our world.

I'm a big believer in every parent having all the need to school their children all the way through high school. So, if you are ever in doubt, let me encourage you.

My educational consulting company, It's A Potsick Education, exists to build up curious, creative learners. I do custom content/lesson design, private, online events, consulting, and more. Message me for anything you need.

I was a classroom teacher in the public schools for over 15 years and, for the past 14 years, have been helping my wife homeschool as well. I currently hold state certifications in Florida (certificate # 960883) in the areas of Middle Grades Social Science and Language Arts and Elementary Education. I have extensive classroom experience with all Elementary and Middle Grades subject content and have done private tutoring for many years in Math, Civics, Science, and Language Arts.

Contact me anytime to share any classes you would like me teach, for classes you really wanted to take, but didn't fit your schedule, or any feedback.
