Intermediate Level
This class is designed to help build a love of reading for learners. By learning to make text to self connections, children are more likely to become engaged with the content of the story. What will be taught: Making Text To Self Connections Comprehension Vocabulary What topics will be covered: Fiction vs. Nonfiction What is a reptile? What is a carnivore, herbivore, and omnivore? Class Structure: During our first meeting, we will get to know each other a little and do a book talk. The learners are not required to read prior to the first class meeting. During each meeting, the learners will discuss what they have read and then complete activities based upon the reading. For all meetings the classes will follow the following structure: Greetings Discussion Activities I will teach using discussion, games, activities, positive reinforcement and praise. When offering corrections, I like to help guide the child in a way that is gentle in nature in order to help them feel safe in making mistakes and correcting them. My teaching style is relaxed and positive.
Learning Goals
The learners will learn the difference between herbivores, conovores, and omnivores. They will also work on describing characters as well as differentiating between fictional and non-fictional aspects of the story.

Welcome
In the first lesson, we will begin by doing some getting to know each other activities as well as making predictions about what we think the book is about. We will also go over class procedures. This lesson may be a little shorter than all of the remaining classes depending on class size. Homework will be assigned.

Discussion of Reading and Activity
In this lesson, we will discuss chapters 1-3 and complete an activity based on the story. The learners will be given a reading assignment as well as a choice of activities to complete for homework.

In this lesson, we will begin by having the learners share their homework activities. Then, we will discuss chapters 4-6. The learners will complete an activity based on the story. They will be given a reading assignment as well as a choice of activities to complete for homework.

This class is designed to support unique learning needs by providing accommodations such as audio book reading, hands on activities, and learner selection of activities to go along with the story.
Parental Guidance
While this book series is fictional, it does include some nonfictional elements. For example, this book includes the terms herbivore, carnivore, and omnivore. We will be discussing science themes while reading this series/book. This book is about a fictional girl who helps a dragon who is sick and her desire and attempts to help the dragon.
