25 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Reading aloud opens up doors that young children are curious about exploring but are not yet able to open on their own. Each week, I will tell a story to the learners. However, they will not get to see many pictures. We will stop to discuss the meaning of what they heard and learners will take a few minutes to draw a quick picture to illustrate the story. This is a great way for learners to practice their comprehension skills. They will be demonstrating their understanding through pictures. This class is great for learners who like to stay busy. Drawing and coloring will keep them busy while listening and building their vocabulary. After the class is finished, learners can enjoy sharing their illustrations with others to practice retelling the story they heard. Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from State University of New York at Fredonia
Hi there! My name is Ms. Amanda and I am an experienced online teacher with a background in childhood education and Spanish. After graduating from the State University of New York at Fredonia, I taught first grade in Arizona for two years before moving to North Carolina to open a business with my husband. In North Carolina, I taught GED and ESL classes at a community college and first grade for two more years.
Despite my love for teaching in the traditional classroom setting, once my son was born, I decided to stay home and pursue my passion for teaching online. Since then, I have been staying at home with my two young children while teaching online classes with OutSchool and teaching ESL classes to children in China. I also worked as a content producer for a children's literacy app.
I have a passion for helping children learn how to read, which is a crucial foundation for lifelong learning. As an educator, I believe in instilling a growth mindset in my students, where they are encouraged to embrace challenges, learn from their mistakes, and ultimately reach their full potential. I look forward to working with your child to help them develop their skills and build their confidence in the classroom and beyond.
