Beginner Level
A journal creates a safe place to be yourself; to feel, think, observe, and dream. Once your thoughts move from your mind to your paper, a sense of freedom is often felt. This class will begin with attendance and introductions of all enrolled students. We will first cover basic rules to keep our class feeling like a safe, relaxing space to talk and meditate. We will discuss journaling and the reasons why journaling can be an important skill for stress relief. Next to there will be an opportunity to ask questions. Then your child will be given a journal prompt and time to write out their thoughts. They will then have the opportunity to share any or all of their journal entry with their peers. Afterward, they will be guided through a seated or laying meditation to aid in deep relaxation. The classroom will be open for discussion regarding the meditation and questions can be asked. **Participation in class discussion (however highly encouraged), is completely voluntary.** Week 1: Introductions, Classroom Rules, Why/How to Journal, Breathing Exercise, 1st Journal Prompt: Self-Definition, Guided Meditation Week 2: Quick Into and Review of Rules, Breathing Exercise, 2nd Journal Prompt: Self-Examination, Guided Meditation Week 3: Breathing Exercise, 3rd Prompt: Self-Interest, Guided Meditation Week 4: Breathing Exercise, 4th Prompt: Self-Reflection, Guided Meditation, Wrap-Up
