Class Experience

Whether you’ve trekked across the Gerudo Desert or climbed atop Death Mountain, it’s likely you’ve noticed some major environmental differences between the regions in Hyrule. In this course, we will take a closer look at all the adaptations, map designs, and other effects put in by game developers to show just how close the regions of Hyrule are to ours on Earth!

In this class, your learner will analyze the different artistic environmental aspects in Zelda: Breath of the Wild put in by game developers. Students will look at how different traits show up in organisms within the region as well as how the environments are made. We will go over biology and ecology terms every class and connect them to each class objective.

Each class will have an art component to it where the teacher will draw with the students. This is not a technical art class. Students are encouraged to do their bests with their own artistic creations while exploring the science topics behind them.

Students are encouraged to share positive experiences within the game and share their passion for science and Zelda with others in the class!

Your student will need something to draw with and something to draw on. This can be by hand or digitally. For more information look at the supply list.

Other Details

Supply List
Students will need something to draw with. This could be digital or by hand. I will be drawing digitally using the digital art program, "Krita." This is a free software students can download before class if they want to. If your student wants to draw by hand, then they will need paper and a pencil or pen. I recommend a fine tip Sharpie pen for the physical map classes. For the other classes, having different colored pencils or markers would work best.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hi there!

I am Ms. Walker and in my class I believe in teaching science to the interest of the learner! It’s all about creating a connection, establishing confidence, and getting creative when it comes to the various topics science has to offer!

I’ve found that one of the best ways to reach a student's curiosity when it comes to science is to use examples from their interests!

Video games? Check!
Sports? Check!
Cute kawaii art themes? Check!

I have a wide variety of ways to engage students while building lasting science knowledge!

MY BACKGROUND:

- Certified Life Science Teacher since 2019
- Taught 3 years in-person for middle school science
- Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
- Work as a team with parents to ensure success for their learner
- Hold connection-building and a positive mindset as top priorities in the classroom

I can’t wait to start working with your learner! For any questions that aren’t answered here, feel free to send me a message! (:
