The Zelda video game franchise includes a ton of cool creatures, characters, items, and enemies! Many of these beasts and objects from Hyrule are inspired by the mythology from the real world. Over five recordings (each 30-50 minutes long), we'll explore mythical stories from our world, and compare them to the creatures Link encounters in many different Zelda games. Week 1Lesson 1Mythology of the World51 minute recording - a focus on mythical themes that pop up in cultures all over the world (such as magical rings, worldwide floods, etc.)Week 2Lesson 2Greek Mythology34 minute recording - discover which Zelda characters were inspired by characters from Greek Mythology, such as Talus, Pegasus, and Cyclops.Week 3Lesson 3Norse Mythology, Celtic Mythology, and European Folklore45-minute recording - we'll explore European influences on the Zelda games, such as Trolls, Jarngreipr, Epona, Hobgoblins, and many more.Week 4Lesson 4Asian Mythology and Mythology of the Middle East40-minute recording - this recording includes interesting connections to Asian an Middle Eastern mythology, such as Chinese dragons, the Mongolian Death Worm, Roc, and Jinn, to name just a few.Week 5Lesson 5America, Africa, Australia, and Polynesia40-minute recording - we'll finish the course with a four diverse and large regions (each of which only have a handful of Zelda references).
