Let the adventure begin! Join us as we follow Ash on his journey to become a Pokemon Master! In this one-time class, we will read a short Pokemon story and focus on the fundamental concepts of reading including vocabulary, fluency, and understanding characters. Breakdown of the lesson: ~Introductions & rules ~Introduce vocabulary words ~Read aloud: I will read most of the pages out loud, then the students will take turns reading out loud (amount based on reading level). The story takes approximately 6-8 minutes to read in this format. ~Analyze the characters presented in the story and choose two to compare (either as a class or independently depending on level of group) The short story we will be reading is adapted from the book, "Go West, Young Ash" by Tracey West and is written at about a 2nd grade reading level.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their ability to understand vocabulary, be fluent readers, and apply their knowledge to what they are reading.

Hello! Mrs. Alison here! I am a certified K-12 ELA/ESL writing teacher for the state of Texas with over eleven years of teaching experience in the classroom and online and degrees in psychology, linguistics, and sociology. I am also a published children's book author! Mix that all together and you have someone who desires to see the next generation of learners be equipped to change the world through writing - and be who they were made to be!
My “Be You & Become a Better Writer” classes are for learners between the ages of 8-12 who want to embrace who they are while learning to become better at writing. It is my desire to have learners feel the freedom to express themselves through writing while developing the skills to articulate it, whether they are writing fiction stories, poems, essays, or even personal experiences. I believe everyone has a story to tell and a voice to share. I want learners to know the potential each one of them has when they put pen to paper (or fingers to keys).
In my classroom, learners will think critically and be able to communicate clearly through writing all while being creative and passionate about the things they love!
I love meeting learners from all over the world and getting to learn from them as well. So far I have taught learners from over 35 countries and all but 3 states!
I am looking forward to growing and learning along with all the learners in my classroom!
