Non-writers and creative thinkers, let’s write some Silly Scary Stories! In this class, students will follow along as I read a short story, then they will write their own version to share with the class! Class breakdown: ~Teacher will read story ~Students will learn about descriptive writing and complete graphic organizer ~Students will write their story using a structured template ~Students will share stories with class if they choose and time permits ~Students will draw and color a picture of their story after class and post to the classroom for the teacher and other students to see their work if they choose. Day 1: The Skeleton - This class will focus on using sensory language and word referents to describe setting and characters. Day 2: A Dark, Dark Story - This class will focus on using strong adjectives to describe nouns in writing. We will learn about adjectives and how to use repetition to tell a story’s events and build suspense. Day 3: The Scream - This class will focus on learning multiple parts of speech and being creative in using strong words in our writing. These stories are a succession of my one time classes, Descriptive Writing: A Silly Scary Story 1 and 2. If you are wanting to complete the series, you can sign up for those as well! I look forward to hearing your silly scary stories!

Hello! Mrs. Alison here! I am a certified K-12 ELA/ESL writing teacher for the state of Texas with over eleven years of teaching experience in the classroom and online and degrees in psychology, linguistics, and sociology. I am also a published children's book author! Mix that all together and you have someone who desires to see the next generation of learners be equipped to change the world through writing - and be who they were made to be!
My “Be You & Become a Better Writer” classes are for learners between the ages of 8-12 who want to embrace who they are while learning to become better at writing. It is my desire to have learners feel the freedom to express themselves through writing while developing the skills to articulate it, whether they are writing fiction stories, poems, essays, or even personal experiences. I believe everyone has a story to tell and a voice to share. I want learners to know the potential each one of them has when they put pen to paper (or fingers to keys).
In my classroom, learners will think critically and be able to communicate clearly through writing all while being creative and passionate about the things they love!
I love meeting learners from all over the world and getting to learn from them as well. So far I have taught learners from over 35 countries and all but 3 states!
I am looking forward to growing and learning along with all the learners in my classroom!
