Martin Luther King Day has come around again and in this class learners will explore 10 lyrical and modern dance moves of unity, love and encouragement to upbeat and energetic music and create a dance to a section of his well know "I Have a Dream" speech from 1963. Students will be briefly informed of who Martin Luther King is, what he stood for, why and how. They will be encouraged to use the choreography provided to develop and present their version of a dance that speaks the expressions in his speech. They are not expected to be perfect, but the goal is to encourage awareness the "dancey" way.
The choreography that learners will learn in this course is very special to me as I have taught it to many students. The same dance has been edited throughout as growth continues to introduce new feelings and thoughts about this thorough and everlasting speech. I have enjoyed creating this dance in jazz and hip as well and along with lyrical and modern, it is still an amazing this to see students get into it their own unique ways...through movement.
