Compelling characters are at the heart of all good stories. Luke Skywalker, Katara, Voldemort, Bilbo Baggins, Goku, Hamlet -- whether hero or villain, what well-developed characters have in common is that they engage us emotionally. We find their stories interesting, and we can't wait to find out what they do next. This two-session class is designed for aspiring young writers who want to learn the art of strong characterization, whether for novels, short stories, plays, film, or television. **Note: This class meets TWICE.** Session One: In our first meeting, we’ll learn what makes characters jump off the page, stage or screen. You'll leave with a list of writing exercises to help you build your central character. Session Two: We'll meet again to introduce our characters to one another and offer and receive constructive feedback. Then, time permitting, we'll do a writing exercise designed to jump-start your character's story. Come with an idea, and leave with a well-developed character ready to embark on their journey!
