Description
Class Experience
This course is designed for students that are already familiar with the Periodic Table of Elements and the structure of an atom. We will begin with a review of the structure, move to the different types of bonds, and finish with chemical reactions/balancing chemical equations. The course is an overview of these topics. Session 1: --Review atomic structure --Explain and review what parts of the atom are involved in bonding --Identify the types of bonds --Explain why some atoms transfer...
Students will be able to explain the different types of bonds. Students will be able to identify atoms that "prefer" to form certain bonds. Students will be able to identify indicators of chemical changes and the reactions that cause them. Students will be able to balance chemical equations.
This course is a follow-up to my Exploring the Periodic Table of Elements course. My favorite all-time teacher was my tenth grade Honors Chemistry teacher. I was already interested in science, but he laid the foundation for the courses I took in college. After I finished with my BS in Biology and my Chemistry minor, I became a science teacher. I taught the ins and outs of the periodic table and the changes (additions) they have made over time. The basics that Mr. Russell taught me all those years ago are the same ones I remember today. I look forward to building a strong foundation with your child.
Completion of any reviews that are sent and exit/entrance tickets
I would suggest a notebook for notes and a Periodic Table of Elements.
