Authors Note: This Book Club blends pleasure reading with academic reading. We'll discuss what we love about the book, while also chatting about theme, imagery, character development, and other literary elements. Every week, everyone will be invited to share their favorite quote from the past week's reading and why. Students will review literary elements such as, language, plot, mood, setting, theme, point of view, narrator, conflict, characters, deepen their understanding of a written text, stretch their thinking as they process and interpret the perspectives of their peers, expand students' ability to express their ideas orally, broaden and deepen their vocabulary, to be affected by the world around them and be inspired to affect the world in a positive way, develop social-emotional learning and self-motivation.
Each student will need to purchase or borrow the following books: May 2022 - Aru Shah And The End Of Time, by Roshani Chokshi June 2022 - Class Act, by Jerry Craft June & July 2022 - The War That Saved My Life, by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley August 2022 - Crenshaw, by Katherine Applegate
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
