This class is really about how the cello works and how to self correct to always play in tune. A student should already have a cello and can join with any amount of cello experience. This course benefits all cellists at every level. All you need is a cello and cello bow in good working condition. I teach to the class. So in each session, I will keep with a concept until the class fully understands before moving on the next concept. We will do a lot of playing at the same time then at the end...
Students will be able to consistently put their left hand down on the cello and know where first position is. The student will know how to self correct if they are playing out of tune. The student will have a basic understanding of the notation on the staff of the pitches in first position. The student will play mini scales and short tunes to reinforce putting the left hand in the proper placement for first position. We will have a great time!
These exercises are done at the start of each cello practice session to set up the student to success in playing all their pieces. Play each exercise and short tune give on each string of the cello (so a total of four time each).
a chromatic tuning app, cello and cello bow in good working order, rockstop
1 hour 10 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
